y'know, these kind of threads abound every time there is a game released.
if you don't believe me, run a search for "strategy first sucks":D
i remember my first game release, and joining in the clamor for heads.
now, it's old hat, and i can take it in stride

Here is a link to the story on snopes. :)

Of course, that Atari has nothing to do with today's Atari, so no inferences should be drawn. :D
After reading that, I had to go dig around in the basement and find my old Atari 2600. I hooked it up and lo and behold, it still works. I just finished playing a game of ET which still sucks as much as it did when it was first released. I've never been more disappointed with a Christmas present than I was with that. Thank you so much for the post Peter, it brought back some very fond memories

Is this like the 3rd thread you've made on this subject cory? Sheesh, how can you be so pissed off about a game arriving a few days late? Blizzard regularly delays their games for upwards of a year and they are one of the most renown gaming companies in the world.

Yes, but you dont have to hear about 1/2 the world playing a "delayed" Blizzard game that the other half cant get.

Guys,

It's only a couple of days. Relax. It's fun to wait.

so, how do you feel about this statement today

But you're right, people are getting too worked up about this. three days is not the end of the world people. we're talking about worldwide distribution here, don't expect it to be perfect, and don't blame paradox for that.

I want to see an offical response from paradox on why their game is not out in almost all of America........I'm waiting.

We have been trying to get as many games out there as possible. Our distributor Atari sent games to stores January 4 as agreed, this is confirmed by e-mails from their warehouse. Apparently many stores where not prepared to meet the demand for the game. We're still working to get more games out there.

I guess we are expected to pre-order. I prefer to shop in person. I dont reward industries for practices I disagree with(pre-ordering). There are many people that prefer to wait to buy then to pre-order.Pre-order(pay for the game before it ships) is a gimmick to get money for a product before that product is available. It also allows distributors to blame customers for not pre-ordering and letting the distributor know just how popular the unreleased product will do_Or worse, to get free advertisement for the cynergy the demand will create.Although this can easily backfire.

I chose to delay my purchase on my own.In a moment of weakness I tried to pick up a copy on the 7th but was told the 11th "whould you like to reserve a copy?"No i will buy it from whoever has it when I try again. :)

Pre-ordering indeed allows a distributor to estimate demand for a game. This in turn allows them to manage production and distribution quantities, which in turn allows them to keep costs down as much as possible. This results in a lower price for the consumer, generally, as well as profit that allows the companies to stay in business. I can't imagine why you'd have an objection to that rather sane business practice.

By the way, could you point out some examples of distributors blaming their customers for not pre-ordering? While, I've seen statements from them declaring they underestimated demand, I don't think I've ever seen "You didn't pre-order, so it's your own damn fault."
