There's got to be an easier way to detect an officer's specialties. For the moment, I have to give them a command first, then switch the command if they don't have what I need. I can never find a fortress buster, a an engineer, a winter specialist etc. when I need them, and have wasted alot of time writing it all down.

What's an "old guard" general good for? The book doesn't say.

The old guard leader accumulates experience at 1/3 the normal rate.
There is no drawback to using them except they are slow learners, that is all.In some cases the old guard leaders are still good leaders to use.

Your other questions i dont know a solution to other than just clicking on the leader pic searching down the leaders interface either by name, rank or skill to find the one you want. Some countries have no cool leader traits and fortress busters, engineers and winter specialists are rare even in the countries with many leaders.
