VP Loic de Fourgéres drops by with his wife Odile
"What sort of herbal or non-caffeinated teas do you serve? My wife usually prefers earl grey, but will look at the selection as well. As I am trying to watch my weight, I will pass on the pastries and scones."

"What a nice selection, but I will stick with my favorite, the chamomile infusion and my wife will have the Earl Grey tea. She likes it weaker than average so please bring an extra pot of hot water. Perhaps next time I will try another kind."

Loic reminds Frans that he probably will be a MGA candidate shortly, and so he might want to begin working up some campaign speeches.
"What topics do you think you might want to concentrate on?"

Armand Hamer, ambassador from St. Esprit, strolls in. "Good day, Monsieur...I hear that your special is Turkish Tea? I have always loved the ...ehm... Ottoman blend." He tips his hat toward Fourgéres. "I understand I may be working closely with you soon, Monsieur."

Loic thanks him for the tea.
"I arrived here myself about 6 years ago, my wife had dual citizenship so I was able to get citizenship as well as we had been married over 20 years. Shortly after we arrived, the Term IX elections were held, the first ones under the new or 'September' constitution. Almost all of the political heavyweights, including several former Presidents, had formed a Unity Party (UP) to try to deal with the double impacts of some terrible hurricanes and the splitting off St. Esprit and Tilapia. They nominated the former multi-term minister of the environment, now called MESA, as their Presidential candidate, who won convincingly, and they had 6 seats in the 9 seat General Assembly. The socialists got two seats and the other party running, now disbanded got one. Most observers thought that it would become a legislative production line, but instead the activity was merely typical of prior administrations, not more productive. At the mid-term Senatorial elections the three Senate seats that were in play where split between the ESA (Socialist), re-activitated P4P (progressive), and the UP (center-right).

Such a coalition was unlikely to stick together, and indeed they had promised to disband before the Term X elections. Some stayed to form the United Moderate Party (UMP), others split off and formed the Conservative Union of Eutopia (CUE) with some previously uninvolved or disaffected politcal activitists. The UMP ran Hawkton Tilly, now our Commissioner of Justice, who was endorsed by the CUE. He lost in a close race to the ESA candidate, our current president Josephus Locke Sergei, who was endorsed by the P4P, the party I was in, in exchange for a say in policy, the VP post (which I have) and two cabinet positions (one of which I have). However, five GA seats went to the opposition (3 for CUE and 2 for UMP), so most legislation that the administration proposed was expected to have a hard time getting passed.

Three cabinet ministers and the three ESA MGA's became inactive. Some of the other MGA (members of the General Assembly) also could not be found, so nothing was taking place, forcing the courts to step in. John O'Floinn, the leader of the UMP was elected speaker, and but the GA has yet to approve a budget, because one has not been submitted, as the administration wanted to pass a VAT to fund some social programs as well as a rebuilding of our military without breaking a campaign promise.

The new activitists in the ESA that became MGAs seemed more radical than before, so discussions within the P4P lead to the conclusion that the best way forward was a part of something larger. (OOC: The election system for the GA favors larger parties by squaring the votes.) Thus the P4P was disbanded and all active party leaders have joined the UMP. I have been made deputy leader. We are in the process of discussion the platform for the upcoming election. We are a pragmatic centrist party, neither socialist nor monarchist. I would hope to be nominated as its presidential candidate. It is not clear who the ESA or CUE will select, if they decide to run candidates. Admiral Tulp and Former President Talbott have been mentioned as possibilities for CUE. We would have trouble replacing Tulp in the Navy, and Talbott was the Speaker of the GA who had to be removed by the courts for dereliction of duty, so I am not sure how well his name would go over with the voters. President Josephus is not eligible to run again at present, although he could do so in the future. The other ESA activists either have criminal issues to deal with or low profiles. Accordingly, I was the front runner in the most recent polls, but the only poll that means anything is the one on election day.

I would encourage you to join the UMP. Perhaps 6 years from now you could be in my place?

Ah Bonjour Monsieur L'Ambassador,

May I present my wife, Odile. Odile this is his excellency Armand Hamer, the Ambassador from St. Esprit.

That would be my goal, yes. If I were nominated for President by the UMP and if we should win, then if the skills of people best qualified and available to hold cabinet posts permitted it, I would prefer to keep the MTIA portfolio, which includes international affairs for myself. I don't want to count my chickens before they are hatched, and so I will take them one if at a time. If it doesn't happen, I expect that we will still have a fair degree of interaction.

Thomas enters the Club, in off-duty dressing.
He waves at the people he recognize, then watches the list.
"Hello, nice place you've got here. Can you serve me please a peppermint at the table down there?" he gestures the table near Per Fourgéres and Per Truman.
McGrath thanks Braxton and quietly walks towards his UMP-mates
"Hello, Frans, nothing new at the Minister? Hello, Loic, i presume she is your wife, my pleasure ma'am."

Loic turns to the owner and smiles.

"St. Esprit is fine enough...I have not been there myself since my appointment, but I imagine it is still a very fine place. Not the wealthiest place in the world, but beautiful countryside - like the French countryside. Mmmm..." Hamer closes his eyes and dreams for a couple of seconds. "It's quite a pretty place. You should visit sometime. Of course politically it is not doing so well. Our politicians have developed this new fad, they all seem to be getting murdered..."
