After a bit of testing, I think that advisors affect division by applying the formula

"country" modifier in combat = ( affected battalion count / all battalion count) * advisor effect.

I was testing for a regular infantery division (9/1+1) an genius artillery advisor (+20%) vs. expert infantery advisor (+10%).

Turns out, the artillery guy does nothing useful (well, + 2%) vs. the infantery advisor has at least some effect (+9%) - so for me the infantery guy is 4x more useful, even so his effect is only half of the artillery guy and ~40% of the damage comes from the artillery.

Can someone confirm this is indeed the behaviour?

If it is, I also want to complain about it, as I would find this stupid. Officer corps effects should apply on battalion level, as should ANY effects that target specific battalion types. For example, in this situation the artillery advisor would give +8.5% vs. the infantery guy +5.7%, which would much better reflect their ability.

EDIT: Further testing revealed, that support battalions do NOT count. Good to know. Also corrected typo (9/1+1, not 10/1+1).

Yes. Teh battalion ratio that you get when you mouse over that fancy new UI element they added, is the scale that high command and such would use. But it is also important to note that the template has to 'count as' X type of division first, for the high command to apply to it.

Thankfully NSB removed that. Instead of giving all the bonuses to the division based on "counting as x division" it's deponent on the battalion ratio

If I may, how much extra damage is the 9% compared to the 2%? Or rather, how much less damage is done if you make it the flat 10% (remove the artillery battalion)?

Pre NSB, that artillery advisor would have been completely useless and you would have only gotten the infantry bonus. Now both may apply slightly less, but both actually apply

Yeah, it is stupid. My genius tank advisor now go unused because I use the 1 tank-5 MoT template.
Also this apply to general trait bonus too. So now my favourite trait for tank is the Combined Arms trait and Cavalry leader!

On the other hand, the advisor give very fast xp over time. As Greece I don't use artillery templates, but still appoint 3 or more land advisors, include the artillery advisory. They give more xp than mil attachee.

They must have actually fixed that then, because last I checked even post-NSB, you still had to count as the type of template before the type of high command bonus would apply, and then it would scale based on the number of battalions of the type.

no, when the game is first release, they are the legendary advisor everyone want, because artillery is very powerful and you just need to use an artillery heavy template.

Does anybody miss the vierd pre sf cap divisions that tried to stack infantry+cavalry/SF advisors bonuses?
Yes. The only problem with it was the game didnt tell anyone how it worked, they just needed a UI element. So then they added the UI element and gutted the whole reason we cared about it.

Oh boy, if you think this is bad then I wouldnt recommend investigating how it worked pre NSB LOL
IIRC, pre-NSB it was a division-level binary (either full effect or no effect). And fun fact: This is MORE useful and (imo) slightly more logical than the current system, because it at least applies the full effect of the advisor (of the right type).

If I may, how much extra damage is the 9% compared to the 2%? Or rather, how much less damage is done if you make it the flat 10% (remove the artillery battalion)?

With 94 base soft attack, the 7% difference would amount to ~6.58 soft attack (the rounding would depend on the other modifiers).

A pure infantery battalion* (10/0+1) would have 70 soft attack and would get a 10% bonus, for 77 soft attack total (withouth other modifiers). This is not viable against the 9/1+1, which has a (modified) soft attack of 102.46 (109% of 94).

*with support ART.

Yeah, it is stupid. My genius tank advisor now go unused because I use the 1 tank-5 MoT template.
Also this apply to general trait bonus too. So now my favourite trait for tank is the Combined Arms trait and Cavalry leader!
Oh no! Thanks for the info. PDX, please fix... :(
