Hey, I'm the Unit and Portrait artist for the LOTR total conversion currently in development. I've spent countless hours scouring files, inspecting models and textures, trying various things. I plan to write up some proper tutorials or record some videos in the future but for now I'd be happy to share the knowledge I've gained. In terms of 3D, Imperator has gone above and beyond, with it's sleek PBR materials, compact packed textures, 3D portraits and even the 3D model used for the country banner at the top-left!
I'll start by showing some of the things I've worked out so far.
Custom Units:
Custom portrait art:
Custom skin tones:
New genes - in this case fantasy ears, there's variants for orcs and elves, here's some elf ears:
Meshes using skin color as base - here's a man but with orc ears, they change to match his skin tone. (Makes for interesting inter-racial breeding results!
New terrain materials with height blending:
And much, much more.
Keep in mind I have limited time so I can't help people learn how to model from scratch, I just want to help other artists get their assets working in-game correctly with the correct material setups and such.
With all that said and done, please feel free to ask away and I'll try and get back to you asap!
