First I would like to say that I've been playing HoI 2 and its derivations for quite a while.

Tonight I've come up with something that I had never seen before and I don't know what make of it.

I've got entire Army Corps being eliminated at once, while retreating from a controlled province to a controlled province. What should be a controlled retreat, not under enemy influence (ie. no gray arrows), to a province I control further behind the lines is quickly becoming a total disaster.

It goes like this: Province A is shaping into a pocket, so I decide to move units in province A to province B, adjacent to it and fully controlled by me and occupied by my troops. I click, here comes the green arrow, they start moving but before the movement completes they simply vanish with the according DISASTER message. Province B remains under my control (and occupied) the whole time, there are no enemy CAS harassing my units and they vanish with STR and ORG almost at their maximum. Happened in different provinces so far, so Im sure its not a land connection thing.

What gives? o_O

Can't I retreat? Defense must be static or I risk losing my armies for no reason? Could you please help? ;)

I assume that there are some situation where your troops surrender in advance. I recall having seen this or something similar happen to AI, but i never experienced it myself.

I suspected as much, it happened more than once, on different regions and provinces and battles. So it sounds a lot more constant to be a glitch. If thats a mechanic I would like to understand it so I could avoid that. So far I dont.

What version are you using? I recall vaguely that something similar happened in versions prior to 1.08, but I might be wrong.
Im using 1.07 with CWE mod (that afaik does not change battle parameters).

Despite the fact that im a AoD and HoI veteran, thats my first gameplay as SOV. Never been on the retreating side that much before XD so I dont know if thats common or not. So far its impossible to defend well when dozens of my division get sucked up to a black hole when Im trying to organize a defense.

Don´t know if CWE mod runs with 1.08 but you should definitely upgrade your version, as this might solve your problem. There´s even a 1.09 beta which you could try out.

In theory it does, I just havent been able to make it work.

Ive tracked down what happens. When a division is moving away from a province that is attacked, if its strong enough to put up a fight (ie, not retreat automatically) it simply dies. If I manually reclick they change from "move" to "retreat" and dont get wiped out. I dont know whats causing this, but at least now I know how to go around the issue.

Divisions with a move command set up before they are attacked, often get wiped out when they lose (or start losing) that attack. Solution is to cancel the move, re-defend, wait a few hours, then manually retreat to where you want to go. The move time appears to be lost?, so risk of overrun is increased. Often happens early days of GER invasion as SOV player. Another problem is with mixed divs in the stack; one runs out of org first, doesn't retreat, they all die. Not sure if either of these is what you are experiencing. Could be related to low morale.

I think its the first option. Definitely that was new to me. Being really careful now with retreats.

Thank you, guys!
