I recently played a multiplayer game, two humans, the rest ai. We were pretty much in step with tech in the mid game, myself and the other human, then the next time we loaded the save he had tachyon lances, jump drives and battleships. What could have possibly caused that and how can I troubleshoot it? There's pretty much no point in playing multiplayer if in the round or two where the ai is controlling your empire, someone randomly gets end game tech. Anyone seen this before?

Is the other player the host? If yes then it's possible that he cheated by loading the save in singleplayer and altering things with the console from there. (Speaking as someone who has done so previously with the consent of all other involved players)

Yeah, he was. If I go in as his empire, is there some way I could tell if that happened. He says he has no idea. But he also pretended not to notice all his ships had jump drive.

I don't believe there is any easy way of telling, other than if you believe he has lategame tech (Or maybe his tech even rivals a fallen empire's) before a date where that would actually even be possible, but it depends on how far he cheated in regards to tech IF he cheated in the first place.
