Occupy or puppet?

I'm playing nat. spain and i invaded portugal. I took all their possessions, with the exception of east africa area & the one province in asia - because they are waaaaay out of range, and none of the local neighbors will sell me military access rights. So unless there's a trick to invading those far off provinces, i don't have many options. I need to invade them because they hold victory points that i need before i can annex portugal.



So anyway..... i'm left with 2 options.

Either i just occupy the territories i have now (reduced to 0% partisan activity), or i accept a peace proposal from portugal which basically gives me all the territories i've conquered with the EXCEPTION of Lisabon.... and portugal becomes my puppet.

I like to keep lisabon though... as it has 9 factories. I think with the bonus' i've got set, i'm getting 30% .. so nearly 3 IC.


If i puppet them and give lisabon back to portugal, i don't get any benefit, do it? So the logical choice would be to stay at war with portugal and just occupy them, right?



Btw.. i'm open to any 'hax' that would allow me to somehow invade their key provinces and annex them.

Do the peace treaty to gain all their oversea territory, wait to peace has expire then annex portugal

if you puppet them, you get all of their daily resource growth once they have a stockpile of 1000 for oil, energy and rare materials (i think those are the only ones)

K.. so i figured out how i could make peace and yet still keep lisabon.

I allied with germany and then loaded up the savegame as germany. Made peace with portugal that way. Nat. Spain got to keep all occupied territories and, as germany, i demanded all other territories. Portugal does not have any territories now and its name been taken out of hte country list. Germany also obtained control of portugal's last remaining units.




As for the question " To occupy or puppet/make peace", in this case it was/is clearly better to occupy. Why? Well as soon as i 'owned' the former portugal provinces without occupation status, they started demanding consumer goods.

My slider went from 10 IPC required to 20 IPC required for consumer goods.

It is clearly better to occupy the provinces (in this case no partisan activity) in this particular case. I guess i'll just continue to decline their peace offer every other month :rofl:
