Occupation of Rome as Italy

If you are one of the first countries to convert to a newly-spawned flavour of Western Christianity, you are given a centre of reformation for your newly adopted faith.


The Pope wants his city. I agree that there should be a way for Italy to get out of the penalty without surrendering Rome back to the Pope, but it should not be a trivial-and-instant thing.

My bad I was under the impression that centres popped randomly at which point it is in your best interests to convert.

The Pope only gave up his claim in the modern world when Popes were nothing more than talking heads of the church, an organisation on the level of the red cross, in the EU4 time period the Pope's influence was waning, but they were still highly respected and their word meant a lot, they had ruled Rome by this time for a millennium. They would not surrender it to Italy held by the Lombards, nor to any Kaiser, nor to the rightful Romans, the Byzantines, If you form Italy you should have NO greater claim to Rome, at all.
