Occasional lack of colonial logic

Current game as Spain. Despite knowing that Nicaragua falls geographically into the Mexico colonial region rather than Columbia, hoping tbh that the resource there would be Gold. Of course this became an isolated province of New Spain (the American South West) rather than part of Spanish Colombia and the wrong side of British Mexico and Netherlands Mexico.

Similarly the Dutch colonised Mesquitos, which has remained a Dutch colony despite being right next to Netherlands Mexico.

Surely there's a way to rationalise this ?

Wasn't Nicaragua part of New Granada IRL? That's why it's included in Colonial-Colombia.

Regionally Nicaragua is part of Colonial Mexico, but in my current game it has a land border with (Spanish) Colombia and no connection except by sea with the rest of (Spanish) New Spain. It would make sense for it to be either auto-allocated to Colombia or for the colonising power (Spain in this case) to have an option.

tbh wish I had paused before colonising and left it as it seems best most of the time to stick within colonial regions.

Indeed, you're right, Nicaragua is part of Colonial-Mexico, Mosquito Coast is Colonial-Colombia. My bad.

You should be able to designate which provinces form and go to which colonial nation.
