Main recommendation for next stream: Play on speed 1 during fighting so that both players have more time to comment and talk about the game while playing.
1. Whatever “historical mode” option the devs have selected clearly isn’t working. Whether this is because of gameplay decisions from the players or that the scripts just don’t fire right. I love the idea of an option to go “historical”. But, if even the devs cant make the right decisions to trigger the “historical” options then whatever requirements are needed must be made much clearer, if the option is simply broken then it must be fixed.
2. Diplomatic AI still seems a bit odd, Japan joining the war against Poland in 1940, in anything close to history, seems odd as it would then be on war footing with the British before being ready to strike (which also seemed to be the case in the game). This is just one example of several. Inviting Yugoslavia to the war (and them joining) rather than having to conquer them later is another. Inviting Latvia? Belgium breaking neutrality and joining the allies in april if 1940? DENMARK joining the allies in april 1940 with Finland following shortly? Spain Joining the axis before the fall of France (and offering to join according to the players)? Eh… the political reality of the time was such that Franco would have been extremely hard to convince in regard to joining the war. The best possibility would have been after the demonstration of strength with the defeat of France and sending very substantial materiel and resources to help Franco build his army.
3. Not sure exactly what happened when they said the German navy was getting its ass kicked, if it was U-boats getting sunk way too much perhaps that was due to starting a larger scale submarine war too quickly. As far as I remember the U-boats had a hard time and were only used sparingly before conquered Norway and France could provide much safer havens that the English navy couldn’t patrol and “net” as efficiently. Generally, keeping the German navy in harbor and safe until the conquest of Denmark to close the Baltic seems to be the best idea.
4. What actually happened when the Germans attacked the Maginot line? The german player stated several times that he didn’t give the command to attack. Bug, or misclick? Why didn’t the german player just stop attacking?
5. Love the aerial missions and fighting overview with graphs to show enemy and own statistics over time. Also, obvious icons on the map showing where aircraft are based and how many. The graphics are good as an abstract representation of ongoing conflict, but could be a bit smaller and in “wings”.
One thing I’m a little worried about is that they could just throw more and more airplanes into a single area, isnt airfield space a limitation?
6. As others have noted, the mass of models and movement happening on the map in the ground war is pretty confusing and difficult to get a good grip on at a glance.
7. In general, the AI still seems to need some work, both ground, navy and diplomatic. The Italian navy showing up in the North sea seems unlikely, and probably not a very good idea considering how far they are from port. The French AI apparently didn’t build its national unity.
8. As other have pointed out as well, something odd happened with the unification. Just before the unification British manpower was around 140k, afterwards it fell like a stone to 80k, and then 0 as Germany destroyed the former French divisions. Perhaps Johan was building a lot of divisions meanwhile?
