Long range fighters?

It says this on page 59:

Strategic Bomber – A large four-engine Bomber which
could carry a large payload of Bombs deep into enemy
territory and strike their cities, Resources, Factories,
and major Installations. These Bombers could often
protect themselves, but were always safest when accompanied by long-range Fighters.

I see no long range fighters listed as a type and I thought I read in an earlier DD that the escort fighter brigade attachments are out, is this right? How do we escort bombers, do we add in Multi-role fighters or do we still have escort fighter "brigades" that we attach to bomber wings?

You probably tailor your research around extending your fighters range (drop tanks and such), there is no escort fighter model but you can focus your research and development on long range fighters.

But is it possible de create as much theater HQs as you want(as stated in the manual), then hit that button so those new HQs are taken into account?
Actually, this has changed quite a bit since the Manual. Now Theatre level is the only HQ level the player CANNOT create on his own. It's done automatically, but the player can make the AI reconfigure its theatres once major changes make the old ones obsolete.

I was hoping it secretly meant that all air divisions now get reinforced/upgraded at 0.00 hrs each day, even if they are in combat or flying :)

So I guess that's still in. That makes air combat in Asia/America harder because air divisions have to be grounded to reinforce or upgrade...
Actually, this has now been fixed -- no need to ground your aircraft! :)

No "attachments" like in HOI 2. What you can do is use technology (drop tanks, etc.) to extend the range of your existing fighters or interceptors to escort the bombers (by combining them in the same unit).
