So in the first war with Novgorod I took 100% warscore of 58 development. This means that with no war exhaustion the coring cost is equal to 58*10*90%=522 admin points. Needless to say in 1446 I am far behind this number so I have to sit the overextension and slowly core the land.

Now if we assume that the base tax of this land was roughly a third the coring cost was 58/3*20*75%=290. Thus essentially we increased the cost by 80% (one might notice that the exact number of development is not as important). Obviously increasing coring costs by 80% is just a very sharp increase compared to the previous patch.

This effect is especially pronounced in poor lands where development is almost always triple of what used to be the base tax of 1.11. The effect would not be so pronounced in rich lands as production and manpower are generally lower than the base tax of 1.11. Looking back in 1.11 the actual increase was 67.5%

Now let's consider what will happen with the first Muscovy idea unlocked. It gives 15% coring cost discount. Then coring what used to be 1 base tax in 1.11 would have cost 12 admin points (with a claim). Assuming now 1 base tax transfers to 3 development, we will have a coring cost of 3*10*75%=22.5. Which is an increase of 87.5%.

I have a suspicion that with such increases WCs are just flat impossible


Suggestion: please bring back the claim discount and even, perhaps, increase it. With 25% discount the coring cost would have increased by 50%, with 30% discount - by 40%, with 35% - by 30% (every additional 5% discount brings back the increase of coring costs by 10%). These are much more acceptable ranges for my taste.

Alternative suggestion is to bring the cost for 1 development to 7 and leave the claim discount at 10%. This would tend to increase the coring costs by about 26% in poor lands

Also, it might be a good idea to move Muscovy's first idea into traditions.

Agreed, the cost for both coring and diplo annexing are insane now. As Teutons going for the Baltic Crusader Achi, I basically cant tech admin even with admin focus. And Integrating takes forever.

For a WC you don't have to directly own all the land. Plus there's Administrative Efficiency and Administrative Ideas.

It's also very early: players will find loopholes ;)

Honestly I feel like the coring costs needed to be increased. Balancing around world conquest is a bad move. 5ish years worth of admin points for territory the size of Scotland sounds like a good deal. It's still far less expensive than developing the land.

Another new limitation, by the way, is that 1 conquered development costs 3% overextension. This means 1 base tax is now transfered into from 6% to 9% overextension. So you essentially can take about half as much land as you could earlier.

It's true that there are additional discounts, but efficiency is too late in the game and adaptabilty idea why decreases the total cost actually increases the disparity between 1.11 and 1.12 in percentage terms

Yeah problem is with people that wants to play the game "normally". See what the OP says about a Muscovy campaign in 1.12. Doesn't make sense at all.

The amount of players gloating and saying it should be even higher cost is sickennig. Is it really that important to you how other players play a single player game? This game is abit blobbing and there are lots of achivments to back that up. These new costs are too high, the question is only how much they should be lowered.

Honestly I feel like the coring costs needed to be increased. Balancing around world conquest is a bad move. 5ish years worth of admin points for territory the size of Scotland sounds like a good deal. It's still far less expensive than developing the land.

We're looking at a massive combination of changes - direct coring cost increased; diplomatic annexation cost increased to match; embassies removed so as to deprive everyone of a diplomat and a relation slot, claims' discount cut by 60%. Hard to argue that the concurrent implementation of such a vast collection of interacting balance changes is a good idea, regardless of your feelings.

The problem is precisely that they are balancing around world conquest. And they're doing it at the same time that they bring us fundamentally game play altering mechanics like the new fort system and development.

I would say 50-100% higher, and move admin efficiency techs to 14, 16, 18 and so on.

Stops early game expansionism, lets countries build up, and then unleashes a wave of conquest after 100 or so years.

I think its cool that you have an idea for a type of game that you will enjoy.

The problem is that it is forcing the game to change into what alot of us would consider alot less fun version of the game. It is not fun to pay 200-400 admin to core a normal province. Even if it gets slightly cheaper later on as you propose.

I think ther new development system really shows it truly. So I could spend 70 points for an incredibly small upgrade, or I could tech/core provinces. Hmmm, going to go with those cores/peace deals/army tech advantage instead.

One tag all cored isn't impossible because the Ottomans and HRE mechanics still exist. Wars are faster and easier. However, I agree that it needs to be tuned a bit as anyone who doesn't have a coring cost reduction feels the increases much more. The 15% difference on claims is much bigger after you factor in other sources because it's a flat modifier. Almost tripling diplo-annex cost without the overseas cost reduction hurts a whole lot as well. Plus, places like Europe will keep developing to the sky and if you start in the RotW and get there late, you're SOL. There's always broken stuff after a patch (+1 stab 'reincarnation found' 10 month MTTH, still being able to cancel movement when locked), but the coring cost increases feel a bit to much for countries that can't stack coring cost reductions.
