Okay, so I have been playing Waking Tiger for a few days now and have come to the conclusion that either Germany has been severely weakened or the new Field Marshall system is flawed. . .

This image was after my invasion of Poland, where I usually lose 20-40,000 men. All of my divisions are at full strength and full equipment. My setup, composition, execution hasn't changed yet now I'm losing 180,000. . .

It's the new combat: soft attack was nerfed by a good margin.

Sometimes the game feels now like a WW1 game instead of a WW2 game, because it's more efficient to micro your front without the battleplans at all.

I have the same issue (and almost the same losses as you). Soft attack seems to have been to much nerfed.

You need to utilise tanks and motorised. If you are pushing with infantry then it is basically WWI tactics. Use tanks to break the lines fill in in with motorised until infantry can come up. Infantry are great for defense and special conditions (special forces) but are terrible at breakouts. If you come across and provinces that the tanks cant break through quickly, move around it and keep momentum.

This patch has made it much harder to use 7/2 for everything.

a good idea, but not practical in 1939. . .

I just finished an invasion of Poland as Germany, and I conquered Poland in 6 days. I had 5k casualties and Poland had 328k. I used 12 panzer and 4 mot divisions that did all of the attacking.

They stealth nerfed that by making planning bonus go away faster when you do it.

Intentionally.

This is a grand strategy game. When the battlespace changes, you should be ready to change your strategy.

Like the German army in '39, you don't need a high number of Panzer IVs or Panthers. If Germany only wished military action vs Poland, then they would not have even been brought in to the army. They were brought in to counter armor and armor piecing weapons which made the Panzer I and II obsolete.

A handful of light tank and motorised divisons is enough for poland. You only really need two breakouts. One to East Prussia (which is a short stretch) and one from the south using the river as a flank towards Warsaw.

At the very least, it worked for me

Edit - Yes they would be brought in, ignore that :)

Not really. The German army of 1939 was one of the least motorized in Europe, and the one with the greatest number of horses.

I am referring to the Panzer and Motorized divisions. In support of the argument that you don't push with infantry.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but these casualties look like you attacked on the entire front with your infantry. What did you expect? You still pulled off a ridiculously good K/D ratio. But when you utilize mass attack tactics, you should expect casualties. If you want to minimize your own casualties, break through with armored divisions and pocket the enemy.
