You totally missed the point. Saying a game becomes tactical just because you do exaclty the same that you did in HOI 2 just more times and more diluted because of more provinces is rubbish.

What was combat in hOI2? Make stacks and attack from several points.

What was combat in HOI3? Make stacks and attack from several points.

Tactical? Hardly. The thing is, in essence the games are the same, what changes is the execution. And both sucked (yes both, before you say I want one province Germany and other typical BS ad hominem for anyone who wants less provinces). HOI 2 because it was easy to abuse forts and rivers, HOI 3 for being too diluted and making 99% battles feel boring or there are so many happening you can´t tell what is happening. Only that borders moved forward and a percentage is looking good.

The ideal would be a middle ground (which I believe is also the opinion of the OP). And it´s not like it still isn´t easy to abuse rivers, BTW.

And in HoI context, that is provinces. Plus for some of us it's more fun.

The problem with having a lot more provinces is that to man a border or to occupy territory you then need a lot more units. we would end up needing to use brigades rather than divisions as our basic unit.
More provinces also means more management for not much improvement in the experience players get.

I liked the extra province numbers in HOI3 compared to HOI2 but wouldn't want it to go much further than that.

Thinking about it that's a fair point. Maybe new game mechanics could deal with that. And I certainly wouldn't want less though !!

For some they aren´t and we have the same right to voice opinion. Fun is subjective.

The current number creates issues with AI garrisoning and I stopped playing the game the moment I invaded Italy in 1942 with the US in Lothos TRP mod, which is suppoed to increase difficulty by AI improvements. Guess what, the AI can´t handle it. A similar problem as pointed was that any increase in number would require that provinces be covered either by brigades or a division to cover more than one province.

Too many provinces is the only reason why I don't play HOI3 and still play DH-Light.
I play multiplayer only and by my mind, much number of provinces kills multiplayer gameplay and multiplayer fun!

I don’t like too long and boring games, I like hard and fast games. It’s easy axiom for multiplayer: “More provinces – longer game!”
For example, I heard that Big multiplayer game ( 7 vs 7 players) on HOI3-map, takes about 3 real hours for 4 war-time weeks (!!).
The Big multiplayer game on DH-Light map in our HOI2-community takes 3 real hours for 4 war-time month!
Of course I prefer variant with more “fast” map in multiplayer – it allows to play more mp-games per year and correspondingly more games = more fun!

So, I feel, HOI-4 will be the same catastrophe for multiplayer as HOI-3 and I will be needed to play DH-Light forever :(((

I will only be fine with a lot of provinces if they make a map editor for mods, trying to make a lot of new countries with 16k provinces is, well... kind of tedious. Shown below are two ideas of mine: One is an unfinished map of provinces in Europe, and another is an idea for disputed places and puppets: Red is a claimed area, green is a puppet, and blue means the area is both disputed and releaseable.

I think the easier solution would be simply to add a Big Provinces option at the start. That way, what is considered a region in hOI 3 would be a province.

Since it´s obvious by now that it´s impossible to please everyone with a single approach, Paradox should try to make it customizable. As long as they focus on making the AI for small provinces, once it´s done it will be easy to adapt it to handle a big province one.

Nope. The AI Simply calculates strenght when doing offensives. If it can do it in small provinces, it can do in larger ones. Same with stuff like supply transfer. If province is 4 times larger, make it 4 times larger. It´s hardly rocket Science.

Besides, the moment I used the word OPTION, you have no reason to whine. Let people who prefer less diluted combats have fun. Honestly, get out of your HOI 3 bubble, isn´t there lots of evidence many people DIDN`T like the way HOI 3 did stuff and left the game to play something else?

What about factories for example? It is still limited to 10 per province regardless of it being 10000 km2 or 1000 km2.

No they should not as the number of provinces in Europe will be slightly less. They added provinces in places where a province is ridiculously large like Africa, Asia and the Americas for example. So the overall number of provinces is slightly more. And you could actually make it so that you split up your division of 4 brigades into 4 divisions with only one brigade in each.

The places where we need to delete provinces are probably Africa and Siberia, where there's lots of something for nothing, in other words, there's a bulk of provinces that aren't used.

What about factories for example? It is still limited to 10 per province regardless of it being 10000 km2 or 1000 km2.

I doubt the game will stick to those arbitrary limitations. The older HOI games all allowed you to have more than 10 IC per province. Check how it Works in DH or AoD, you have both.
