Hi all,

I'm running a game as an independent Austria at the moment, and wanted to push for nuclear power to take care of my long term oil needs. I've successfully built my first reactor and placed it in Vienna, but my energy didn't incease at all!

What am I doing wrong? How do you gain energy from the nuclear reactor and how much can I expect to receive?

You need "Nuclear Power Plants" not reactors. Reactors are for nukes the Power Plants come later in research.

However, building nuclear reactors does speed up nuclear research. So If you really want nuclear power plants, it would be wise to still build a few reactors to speed this up :)

Also, production from nuclear power plants won't show on the province tab, it will be added directly to your stockpile. So you have to hover the mouse over the energy stockpile to see how much energy you get from them. I think default is 4 energy per power plant level.

I think it's only 3 per power plant, because I had built 5 power plants as Germany in 1952 and all I got was 15 energy from them. But I presume that goes up once you research further into the nuclear tech tree?

Its actually pretty low with the first power plant tech. I think i was getting as low as 1.5 energy per plant.

How expensive are the power plants then? 1.5 (or even 3) energy per plant doesn't seem like a very good investment in IC, if you follow the whole nuclear program just for more energy?

It's not a very good investment period, since you also have to pay money (which costs IC, which costs energy, metal and rare materials..) in order to have the plants produce energy.

Generally it might be best to keep your nuclear plants offline until you research better technology.

Generally it might be best to keep your nuclear plants offline until the technology improves sufficiently.
You need to pay to weaponize nuclear material, not to produce nuclear energy.

Eventually (probably late 40s) nuclear plants are far more efficient than trading money or building infrastructure.

So esentially, the only resource you can't build is metal.

Actually, power plant techs are in 1950s tech if i remember correctly.
