Fair enough. I hope you didn't use the horrible gamey tactic posted on the first page though (the constant imprisonment thing) and just did it with a queen start? I don't have the balls to play a queen as she could only be called Priscilla being near the desert and all that, and well it just doesn't fit in my lolRP land...
Also, it is pre-1.07, and lots changed.
I've been able to survive and thrive as Axum 1.06 and the swearing to fealty the the Papacy after converting to parent Orthodox to holy war Orthodox heresies. Then converting to Catholic in order to raise the Catholic Holy Orders.
Axum is the easier start because you are only a Duke and can swear fealty to anyone.

No, you don't (see my giant post on the first page).
Nubia is most certainly the hardest, and in 1066 you're mostly just screwed without cheats or the Ruler Creator. Axum can swear fealty to whoever they please and use that to deter the Caliphate, and Abyssinia has the power to take out Harer and Sanaa, and when strong enough can potentially convince Axum to vassalize for free.
Though none of them are particularly easy. A game in Ethiopia is a game that's going to be a struggle at the start... but once you get past those early critical decades where Muslims could obliterate you at any given moment, you're set to become one of the wealthiest and most powerful states in the world.
I would prefer swords of Nubia with Nubia starting as Empire and free CB on anything.
And seriously. I tryed Nubia at 1.07b, gathered Abbisinia with ease + Sana + my Grandson is king of England all in about 80 years.
I'll try next time without RD, it should be harder.

There is a very easy way to survive as Nubia or any weak country... ask your strongest neighbor (the fatimids here) to become his vassal. While CA is low, eat his vassals!
With the faction system, it becomes even easier now! you can lower CA easily! and each time you liege send someone to convert your holdings, plot to kill the missionary!

Could you destroy your king title and revert to your ducal title? Might be worth a try.
Only way I have survived in vanilla is with an Axum Shia ruler via the Beard Designer and swearing fealty (a Nubian Shia still doesn't work as you just get hit with conquest DoWs), it's easy enough to expand that way, and eventually the Fatimids start to break up once the first Caliph dies if you help them on their way a little with some discontent and helping factions.
With the mods and so on, it's possible, but still pretty hard. The biggest issue after a while if you haven't been able to expand northwards is that all your provinces are poor 3-4 slot at most.
I've given up trying it as although I can see it's posible, it's frustrating and down to too much luck in the end, and I can't be bothered reloading all the time when something happens as it spoils the fun. I'll hopefully wait and see what will happen in the next patch IF it gets some attention. As it is, everyone seems more keen for extra boobs in-game rather than balancing and bug-fixing, oh well...

Sorry, guys! I had tried it only for the Hudid Emirate in Saragosse, not for kingdoms. However, as the duchy of Aksoum, you can ask to be the vassal of either Fatimids, ERE ou HRE... I checked this time, there is no need to be de jure.
Yeah, for example as the duke of Brittany you can swear allegiance to anyone. Try joining the Empire and attacking France for forged claims, and yet if they attack you they're screwed.
Never swear fealty to infidel, they have free revocation for all your titles. So if you play Axium, best for you would be joining EHE. After last patch ERE is formidable opponent for muslim world.
Ehh - I don't know if LoR makes them truly formidable (I tried once and it did not), but in 1.07, they lose just as handily to the Fatimids as ever. In my only LoR game, they tried to reconquer bits of England when the Fatimids and Seljuks were eating parts of Anatolia, so I tend to play with LoR switched off.
Out of my about 10 games ERE was dissolved 4 times and pwned Persians taking almost whole Messopotamia 6 times. Not shure if LoR has some influence.
