BTW if the Deluxe map is dropped, then won't that mean that the useful dotted arrows showing the connection between Kazan and the steppes etc. will be dropped too? I like having the additional reminder...

The arrows are bmp files (not part of the Deluxe map itself) and definition is in province.csv. Removing the map doesn't change the display of the arrows.

By owning Constantinople, and only after the event to possibly give a core there has happened.

But if the Ottomans own Constantinople and have made it their capital, then the only way for Russia to own it would be to kill off the Ottos completely, so not an easy thing to achieve!

Yep. Reading that it seemed to me that the sensible thing to do is to find a way to Thrace and quickly take it for yourself. It's a nice province - Orthodox and rich - so it'd be worth it if it can be had. But can it? I haven't got the game map in front of me

Does anyone know - if I take Thrace (from Byzantium) before the Ottos get it, I'm assuming the event won't fire, so this strategy wouldn't work? Has anyone tried this?? Thanks

I had a look at the event yesterday (I'm still not home ) and it looked like what would happen was that in 1588 you'd get the event to get the core anyway - and it wouldn't make any sense - and then shortly thereafter you'd gain Greek culture. Just hang onto the province for 150 years or so

Thanks for the information, think in my current Russia game I will pass on this, though, as would mean having to capture Thrace (and possibly Otto provinces connected to it, unless can get MA) before the Ottos get it, then hanging onto it w/o Greek culture for another 150 years or so - not sure it is worth it!
