I think it's a slavic language... certainly "sounds" like it, IMO. Sadly, I don't have any idea on which language it is, nor where to find a translator. Perhaps we'll get lucky and the author of the message informs the rest of us about the contents... *shrugs*

I think 'Novgorod' means 'Novgorod' though...:D
'Rusiju' would be 'Russia' (or a word derivated from it), and 'Moskvon' would be 'Moskva' or 'Muscowy'.
Perhaps 'losa kvaliteta' could be 'lose quality', but that's probably just a Swenglish imagination...;)

It is a mark of quality to play Novgorod!

Really? I played Novgorod in my first game, but I didn't manage to take out Byzantium in time to become Russia. Lousy 1.0.:)

I never play as Novgorod, but as Muscovy, I take them in no more than 1.5 years, and that because I wabt to spare my troups.

Muscovy is far easier than Novgrod at the begining, but Novgrod is stronger long term because Finland is your state culture.

Consequently, if I play Russia, I always play Novgrod. The wars are far longer than Muscovy's are, initially, but after a few decades of systematically fixing your DP you should be in a comparable possition -- especially as you gain new provinces and stop having to worry about Muscovy's manpower. Of course, playing Russia, manpower stops being a problem very soon. :D

I play Novgorod instead of Muscowy for the three reasons above:

1) Start with CoT.
2) Second culture. Since I love to kick Sweden around, those provinces become easy converts/profitable.
3) Muscowy is too EASY.

The reason the war takes me 10 years and not 1.5 is because I don't have all the Muscowy morale (and I think early leader) advantages. I have to work at it. But it's not luck, as whoever said. I've never lost a Novgorod game, you can always trade away a junk colony for time, and space to recover. (I did get down to 3/4 occupied provs in the 10 year war game)

I don't find that surrendering territory is usually necessary. Sweden will usually settle for cash. Sudzal is a one-province minor, and fairly easy to defeat. Muscovy wants land, and won't settle for money, so you've just got to wear them out. That usually means fighting a defensive war, on your land, but by carefully husbanding your forces, and resources, and letting General Winter take care of Muscovy's forces you should usually come out on top, perhaps gaining a province from Muscovy.

In general, though, I agree with you. Muscovy is too easy. Novgrod is far more of a challenge, and therefore far more interesting.

That is exactly why one wants to play Novgod. It is fun to turn the war around. :) And, once you've become Russia, you are a super Russia, with Finland just waiting for liberation. :D

If that's your idea of Spanish, I'd hate to hear what your idea of Portuguese is.:D ;)

I play Novgorod because it's more of a challenge, and because I want Nokia-land.

I always play Novgorod because I really want that ugric state culture and because it feels more satisfactory to become Russia as Novgorod than as Muscowy (and it's easier to take a not-quite-historical path in the domestic development of Russia).

As Novgorod you just need to remind yourself that when the computer is sieging all your provinces you should not panick but just keep your troops alive for counter sieges. Then wait for the Swedes and friends to get bored and cripple Muskovy, nail them for 2 provinces and vassalage if you can.

So why should you play Novgorod? The answer is obvious. You are such a good EU2-player that you have problems with finding a really challenging nation to play!

Ah, that's why I am having trouble :( I survived the first round of wars, Muscovy was a real problem, but ended up paying me, I was DoWed by everyone, but took the War to Sweden and bought them off cheap (14d). "Attack the leader and don't keep cash on hand", that's my motto when things look bad.

Still, 5 years into my GC I was wondering where I went wrong, no new provinces, I was ahead in peace settlements by a good deal, but still, I don't seem like I'll be a threat to anyone ever.

Edit: Hard/Agressive btw

If only Muscowy and Suzdal declare war, you're doing great. Sweden usually jumps in too. They declare war because you're weak at the beginning.

And Norway usually joins in with Sweden, though Denmark will usually (not always) dishonor their alliance. Plus, often Tver and Pskov will attack you too, and sometimes the Teutonic Order. It can get real fun.

BTW, one poster in another thread reported that in one of his games, he saw an AI Suzdal manage to become Russia.

Perhaps I can help here. The post is in the Dalmatian dialect of Croatian, and reads roughly as follows:

"Novgorod is not really your best choice... poor quality army, expensive army at the beginning, f***ed neighbours etc. If you want Russia, it's better to start with Moscow although it's difficult with them too. Where are you from?"

I gave my shot at Novgorod in Aussie 1.05 at very hard normal agressiveness. It was hard. Muscowy managed to kick my ass again and again until I got pissed off, maxed out my loans and went bankrupt. But in the meanwhile I had bought a killer army and reduced theirs to shreds while I sieged all provinces... Later I watched Tver annex both Pskov and the remaining province of Muscowy, I quickly DOWed them and grabbed the provinces.

Somehow they managed to win a lot more than me no matter the consequences. They had no leader and I am in good understanding of how terrain works.

Even if you do manage to survive the Russian minor conundrum, by the time you annex all of them, your BB would be so high you'd have to start worrying about Poland-Lithuania and Sweden Part Deux... The ends justify the means though. =)
