In a similar vein to a recent thread by Khalesh, I believe it was who started the thread films that get you in the mood for EU4, I would like to gather suggestions for book series and one off novels that this community knows about that are set in the time frame of EU4 or that help with that role playing element.
I'll start with my list,
The Sharpe series by Bernard Cornwell
The Fort by Bernard Cornwell
Sword and Scimitar by Simon Scarrow
The Mongol series by Conn Iggulden (a bit before EU's time frame but still good for RP purposes)
The Wars of the Roses series by Conn Iggulden
The Tournament by Matthew Reilly (a little bit ahistorical but fun and a good read none the less)
The Best of Men by VC Letemendia (not a particular favorite of mine but one of the few historical fiction books focusing on the British civil war)
I'm sure there are more but they are some my favorite or the first to come to mind. I would love some more suggestions though as I love historical fiction but haven't been able to find much set in EU4's time frame so please let the suggestions flow.
