There were many instances of this happening in real life (even today, sadly), and one that springs to mind is mary I. Her stomach made her believe she was pregnant, when actually she was just very sick and no baby actually arrived.

Are there such events in CKII? It would be morbidly pleasing to see people on this forum expecting a son and then their treasured wife kicks the bucket.

Well I havent seen an event refering to this specifically but neither is there any coded protection from illness or sudden death for pregnant women. I've seen a couple pregnant ladies kick the bucket so far, including one who didnt have a stat below 10, and who was 26, ouch.

To be honest, maternal and child mortality rates seem a bit lower than they should be. My guess is this was a playability design decision.

I seem to recal a dev mentioning that this was done because it was unfun to play a game where everybody keeps dying and you've got a ton of dead toddlers

In addition to it being less fun, it was also a performance issue to keep track of a lot of short lived characters.

Johan has stated in other threads that dead characters don't slow the game down and that game performance does not degrade over time like it did in CK1. So I don't think this was the reason.

Yea the devs talked about this several times, I think because of clutter reasons. Many characters would show tons and tons of kids and would have to weed out few the ones that survived. It doesn't really bother me but I think a simple check box saying "hide all dead characters" would have worked.

More false pregnancies would be fun..

I'd like to see more complications surrounding pregnancies and children's health; I've completed four twenty year demo games so far and of the dozen-ish children I've birthed not one has died and not one pregnancy has failed.

That's a pretty good result today, and an incredible feat in the 11th century

any modders looking at this?

I disagree! My best AAR ever was a game where major characters were dying every couple of game months. In a 25 year period, there wasn't a single birth because no leader lived long enough to have a child.

The lower mortality rate is compensated by lower fertility of rulers so it all evens out. I like it better this way. If your good heirs keep dying, its unfun and just makes it tempting to reload.

I think they said that the incidence of pregnancy was reduced rather than have historic levels of infant mortality. As a result many kids who would die young simply aren't born instead. Makes sense to me.
