So, I've noticed a severe lack of prisoners since the new patches. I think this is being caused by most nobles not being called up into the levies anymore. I almost never capture anyone now, and when I do, its ussually an unimportant nobody. Taking prisoners was one of the most enjoyable parts of the previous war system.

I also really don't like all the freebie generals you get from retinues. It seems really silly, and detracts from the strategy of landing a character so he could lead your armies.

I noticed that aswell. I remember surviving one jihad in which I paid for my huge mercenary expenses by capturing prisioners, not that I expected it beforehand. One could capture lots of people and make some serious cash with that some of the times.

Yeah it's irritating. In big battles you can still capture a lot of prisoners but they are usually lowborn generals from retinues  Not sure why they changed it. If it aint broke.....

This could be remedied by removing the free general for each retinue. This would also solve the enlarging court and lag problems later in the game...

The latter is probably true. But it's not just that the people being captured are mere Courtiers, it's that fewer of THOSE are captured as well.

Its because there are a lot less generals actually leading the armies. Vassal levies usually don't have anyone assigned since 1.07

CK2 doesn't really have lag problems later in the game on any comp I've played on in any version of CK2 (really happy about that). EU3 will lag later on though on these same comps, I wonder if your experiencing more of a hardware issue/bad drivers. Character numbers stay relatively stable after 100 years as the initial larger amount of landless courtiers dies off with 1 child or none, except it does increase with the increasing number of holdings. The only except is if you have lots of territory swapping from holy wars/invasions/crusades can cause whole dozens to hundreds of courtiers fleeing to other courts (say a Jihad is won for Greece) and then dozens of new characters being created to rule over the new baronies.

I have lag problems that are pretty much unbearable. When i start out everything runs fine. But 200 years into the game with 1200 vassalized holdings the game freezes every 3-4 ingame days for like 5 seconds. And yeah my pc isn't all that new (dualcore CPU + 4GB RAM) put every other game I play runs just fine (including EU3 vanilla).

What I do is I put the view of the game as far over on the edges I can go. That really speeds up the games on my laptop. But your unable to see anything if your currently in a war.

A lot of it is liege levies not having leaders (so there is nobody to capture).

What I've noticed is:

1. Prisoners are taken way less often than they used to be
2. Those prisoners are usually retinue spam
3. When I do capture someone important, it is far more likely to be a prince or a king than it used to be since they aren't hauling most of their vassals off to war anymore

That said, I much preferred 1.06. If anything, this game needs to increase the chances of capturing people in war. If you're reigning in "x" and I sack "x" I should have pretty good odds of ending the war

Has anyone heard if they're removing the ridiculous generals from 1,08?

One would think the vassal would assign an existing general to take care of the troops. Maybe include a "invite general to lead retinue" option that can be used for free, if you have an empty slot in a retinue for someone who actually has a problem with.. no you know what, getting random courtiers/vassals to lead your retinues isn't that hard.

I just noticed that there's a definite tendency now to nab heirs. I captured two (un-landed) Godwins as the Bastard, and have nabbed heirs of rebelling Dukes twice since (which is great, for many reasons). Haven't captured an Imperial Prince yet, but am looking forward to seeing what the ransom there is :D

was there some legitimate reason they had to remove vassals leading levies in 1.07. It was way better before when you could fund almost every war capturing and ransoming prisoners. It made chasing those small levies around the map worth it when you knew you had good chances of making a few extra bucks from ransoming. Sometimes I would even go to war just to snag a few of their vassals for ransom. I don't see any reason why they removed this so hopefully its fixed in the next patch.

lol so true, many of my wars have been won by my smaller armies by gobbling up their leaders and selling them for phat booty. Then using said booty to hire mercs and capture more phat booty. Rince, repeat, and conquer your enemies.

Looking into the gamefiles a bit, seems the odds are only like 5% or so for capture per character, but its modified per title, so for an emperor there's only like 1% chance on capture after a victory.

I just made the odds one in four, and decreased the odds for higher titled rulers to be caught. Now the odds for capturing that emperor are closer to 5 to 10% on a battle. Makes it totaly worth it to go after that stack of enemies that is being lead by the emperor now.

Capturing the enemy leader is totaly gamey tho, since if you have a child ruler as an enemy, you can't even capture the little brat and haul her/him out of their castle and force a peace. (thank you dungeons&sieges mod for fixing this)
