Not all keyboards in the world have US layout... (z and y swapped here)

Hi,

qwerty is for the map modes - but I have a german keyboard layout and so z and y are different here. This may be surprising ;) y, the last map mode, therefore is below a and s. EU IV can not have user defined keyboard shortcuts - so what can I do?
I was thinking to set the US keyboard layout only for EU IV - but hmm, how can this be done with Win7, because I think the EU 4 application needs the focus while setting per application keyboard layouts in windows...

Haha, everything around Paradox seems pretty untechy, from my first experience...

TIA

It really doesn't matter where and who wrote the game. It's still made for the largest market which is the market with qwerty keyboards. Nevertheless, I agree with OP that we should be allowed to set our own keys, I myself use dvorak and therefore really can't use it for any more than pausing the game.

I'm just saying that, of course they are aware not every keyboard is in a US layout - THEIRS is not in a US layout. That's why in EU2 and EU3 for a long time § was used to get into the cheat console, because it exists on the Swedish keyboard but is rarely used for anything..

LOL, its standard to have two keyboard layouts, enUS and yours. ALT+Shift ingame... and call yourself BFU :D

Ah yeah thanks, I forgot about the very common ALT+SHIFT windows shortcut, which everybody constantly uses.

BTW enjay, obviously I meantioned the keyboard layouts from within windows. You can be sure, many users even do not know they exist. Obviously it would help if Paradox would auto change the layout to en-us, because (AFAIK) itÄs handled per-application by windows, so no problem.

But you should know it.

If you really want to mod the keyboard shortcuts, the relevant file (for this particular issue) is /interface/menubar.gui, which sets the shortcuts for the buttons in question. Look for the guiButtonType "custom_mapmode_6".

You do understand that the game is written in Sweden, primarily by Swedes?

The Swedish layout is still mostly a traditional QWERTY, and not an QWERTZ like the German. So it is very possible that Paradox have assumed that almost everyone uses a QWERTY based layout (since they are Swedish they would not assume everyone uses the US QWERTY though). Since I personally only use various QWERTY layouts I have no idea how well programs usually handle layouts like AZERTY, QWERTZ, and Dvorak. The case is a bit uncommon here since they mix position based bindings and initial based.
