Islands near the coast can be stepping stones to invasions, like Ivan pointed out in his example with Italy/A-H.

But I'm not convinced that the Adriatic Islands were that important in the grand strategic scheme of things, and won't be crushed if they are not in the game...

I concur with Ivan, to have some islands in the Adriatic is very important and should be their own small provinces, to serve as stepping stones or key ports. Did you know the White House used marble mined on the island of Brac? Is that not strategically important enough for you? :D

We don't need the Adriatic islands as provinces, but it would have been nice to at least see them on the map as part of a land province.

Cres 155 square miles
Hvar 182 square miles (300 square km).
Brac 150 square miles (394 square km),
Pag 110 square miles (284.6 square km) and is 37 miles (63 km) long

vs.

Malta 94.9 square miles (246 square km)

more islands *that* size or smaller...
Tobago, Trinidad and Tobago 116 square miles (300 square km)
Mahe 56 square miles (145 square km)
St. Helena, UK 47 square miles (122 square km)
St. Martin 34 square miles (88 square km)
Hong Kong Island 30.6 square miles (79.2 square km)
Bermuda Islands, UK 20.6 square miles (53.3 square km)

Note before we go to strategic importance we have Vis (Lissa) island 56 square miles (90 square km) were in 1866 naval battle took place between Italy and Austria, after Italian failed attempt to land on the island.

It was first battle of ironclads in history (were not counting that Civil war incident since those things could hardly be called ships  beside they couldn't even sink each other :D).

Islands strategic importance didn't diminish through centuries, British used it as base against Napoleon, and later as forward airfield during WW2.

Grat post, my fellow countryman!
