I have mentioned the "undeclared war" in Brazil Portugal vs. Spain,but it is surely not under the Tordesillas treaty this is happening.The Treaty specifies who has CBs(shields) where and that these can attack non european powers without declaration of war.But I've seen that I cannot (playing Spain)just enter into an English settlement which has soldiers in it without declaring war or something like that,I can however enter a province which has no soldiers ad occupy it.But Portugal being my opponent seems to able to attack continously without a declaration of war under the Tordesillas treaty.I do know they have shields on the Brazilian provinces but surely Spain is a very European power... and since those provinces are heavily fortified and militarized there should be no excuse for Portugal to attack(shield or not)but they continue to do so.This can't be right can it?

I might add that the shields I'm referring too are the ToT shields not CB shields...sorry about that one.I've read an earlier post where Andrew I think replies that Portugal/Spain has the right to attack other European powers within their sphere,but the Treaty specifically reads non european powers,and the game actually more or less refuses to attack other Euro powers.I had no difficulty in attacking Chimu,Aztec,Inca etc.not even penalised for that because they were non-european powers,so I guess there is something I just don't get here.

Not that I have been on the using side of the ToT but as far as I gather it just gives you shields for CBs on a lot of provinces (without making them core) unless the current owner is catholic and it is before the edict of tolerance, in which case ownership will be transferred to the ToT-shield holder immediately when he gets control of the province, and he can enter the province at any time.

The ToT specifically allows SPA and POR to attack any European power in their respective ToT shield provinces.

"Portugal and Spain may now attack and conquer any non-European provinces without having to declare war on their owner"

Note "non-Eurpean provinces" not "non-European powers".

Yes that is right non euro provinces...how stupid of me.. guess that is what can happen when your native language aren't English...

IIRC Spain and Portugal can only attack Catholic countries, not all Europeans who occupy their ToT provinces.
