Colonial War & Guarenteed Independance

I'm not sure if this is considered a bug, but in my mind it sounds...wrong.

Portugal has it's independance guarenteed by UK. I declare a Colonial War on Portugal, and UK immediately joins the war.

My query is that I am not threatening Portugal's independance (I can't attack their homeland), yet the UK gets to join the war. If they had a defensive alliance, I'd be happy to see the UK get involved (well, not exactly happy :wacko: ).

Not a bug - you are attacking Portuguese provinces. Uk is guaranteeing Portugal's territorial integrity - not making sure you leave Lisbon alone

Ok, so the difference between a defensive alliance and a guarentee of independance is just that its one sided?


Wars be going on for > 6 years. UK won't make peace for only 1 small colony of the 4 colonies I've taken (southern africa)
