Not getting any monthly income

My very first EU2 game today. Applied both 1.05NA patches, started er up, and chose the Grand Campaign, and Castile. Was doing okay, but wound up having to take a loan to pay for a war.

Time passes, the war drags on, I have to renew the loan. It is a few months away from coming up for the third time, and I am 100 ducats short, so I raise my monthly coinage to make up the cash shortfall, and it should've only taken 4 months, no problem at all for the time available.

Payback time is a month away, and guess what? I haven't made any noticeable gain in money, and hadn't spent any either, but my income should have been about 30. I look and see that the slider is still all the way up, and hover over it, and sure enough, I'm still supposed to be making about 30 ducats a month, but my money only increases by about 1. Yes, just 1. Maybe 2. So I hover the mouse over my cash and it says I'm making about 1.5 ducats per month.

So I go and drag the slider all the way down, so I should be losing about 7 ducats next month. That wasn't what happened. Instead, I still gained 1.5 ducats.

Now, my inflation was going up just like it should, but my cash flow was severely crippled. Would it be all right if we got this fixed in the 1.06 patch? I would really like to play this game, as my EU1 disk is worn out from over use.

Did you close the budget window? If the end of the month comes and you haven't closed it no change will be made, hence the same result (+1.5 Ducats)

Not entirely sure.

Just for gits and shiggles, I reloaded the game this morning and the problem seemed to have disappeared, so I was thinking I wouldn't have a useful savegame to send you.

So I started playing this evening, and was doing ok, and then it happened again. I saved the game right before an end of month and watched it not give me the money I had it set for. I reloaded to make sure the problem would still exist if I sent it to you, and it was gone; things worked correctly.

I will check your suggestion, but I am not confident that you are correct. In both cases, it was giving me about 1.5 ducats when I was asking for more than that or less than that.

I have another item, which is definitely a real gripe, but it may already be reported and haven't looked for it yet. MEMORY LEAK FROM HELL.

I have 384 megs on this thing. When I run the game, it takes up most of it. No big deal; I expect that. But when I quit the game, about 100-200 megs are unrecoverable. And if I try to restart the game it just bounces out, and then I might as well reboot the thing if I wanna do anything other than listen to MP3s.

I'll post it as another thread or hold off on that, which ever you decide (but don't take all month to decide). :D

The question is, when it only gave you 1.5, and you go back to the budget screen, is it still set on 1.5, or is it set where you put it to give you more? If the former, then it is probably the same issue mentioned before.... after you make a slider change, you *have* to close the budget window for it to take effect (although maybe a save before you close the window puts the proposed changes in the save game file, which might have caused some confusion.)

I don't seem to have this problem myself, and the "crash on restart" sounds more like one of the many resolution CTDs EU2 has. Sometimes a crash (particuly one that doesn't restore the desktop resolution correctly) leaves DX in a state that doesn't work and which can't be re-initialized to work without reboot.

Strangely, I have (so far) always gotten the proper screen res back after a crash. The lack of memory will often introduce instabilities which can only be cured with a reboot, but as long as I don't do anything terribly drastic, or want to restart the game, it's manageable for a while.

It seems your suggestion about hitting the BACK button is correct. I watched carefully over the course of many hours and game-years, and the problem never crept back in.

Something else I noticed, which MIGHT be related, is if I'm in the diplomacy screen and I'm looking around and letting time flow, occasionally at the beginning of a month, the program will bump me over to a country I was looking at some time ago. This is really just an annoyance, but if I were to play MP and couldn't stop the clock, I might get more upset.

I have noted several minor problems by now, 100 years into the game, but as they are minor, and I haven't checked the 300+ known bugs list thoroughly yet, I will hold off on that. I really only mentioned the initial problem because it was something rather important that would invalidate the whole game, but none of these other problems I've found is completely insurmountable. And some are just suggestions to smooth out play or whatever, and therefore don't belong in a bug-list.

Thanks for your help, and sorry to come up with a problem that wasn't a real problem.

FYI. During beta testing I figured out this phenomenon. If you have any window open, then the window will be refreshed whenever another country is annexed. This results in the problem with not "saving" budget slider changes, for example. Until you leave the budget window, your changes are not "saved", and window the window refresh you are screwed. Other examples are that if you have selected another country in the diplomacy window, the diplomacy window will be reset to your countries.

About your problem. If you haven't read the Economy FAQ in the FAQ forum, please do. Maybe something else is going on you're not familiar with...
