Submarine abbreviations

SS - Diesel Submarine
SSN - Nuclear Submarine
SSBN- Nuclear Ballistic Missile Submarine
SSGN Nuclear Guided Missile Submarine

Everything is alright here, Himmler has not gained control of the submarine fleet.

A subamrine unit, like a destroyer represents more than one unit. The Royal Naval certainly raised SUB divisions.
