The role of Poland in the start of WW2

The HOI system of alliances makes it very hard to accurately simulate the role of Poland in the start of WW2. Historically Poland was attacked by Germany AND the Soviet Union.
While Poland was allied to to Britain and France, they had forseen this could happen, so in the treaty text there was a secret clause stating that the security guarantee extended to Poland was only valid if Poland was attacked by Germany.

In HOI, a Soviet attack on Poland would inevitably land the USSR at war with the Allies. There might be a workaround though: if the Allied guarantees to Poland can be represented by events, then Poland might stay neutral while Britain and France declare war on Germany, thus allowing the Soviet Union to attack Poland too.

Is this at all possible or are things hardwired the way they are?

No, things are hardwired.

SO we have a an event which allows the SU to gain the teorrtry at the expense fo Poland. It was the only way it could be done.
