Revolt risks

When two (or more) revolt risks are added together they both run until the end date of the first one.
Example -playing as Russia I got the time of troubles event with revolt risk +8 for 6 years .In the middle of this a meteor was sighted (just bad luck) adding +3 for a year.Instead of returning to +8 after a year the revoltrisk stayed +11 until the end of the six year period.
The same problem badly affects the break up event for the Golden Horde .The event is supposed to give them a big revolt risk to start with which is gradually reduced over time.Instead the risk stays the same for the whole ten years(If memory serves
me right) covered by the event. This perversely results in them not
breaking up properly because their government continually collapses and their rebellious provinces don't defect.

Sorry if that was a bit long winded.

that is how it is supposed to work. I can't remember the exact reason why, but it had to be that way or the problem was worst.

It is that way because only a single RR and duration are stored for each nation, rather than keeping a list of RRs and durations for each and every nation.

A poor design decision, perhaps, but once that path is embarked upon you have few options.

1) Let a new RR event cancel the old one. Completely voids the effects of long scripted RR events. Very bad. Can utterly eliminate the simulation of a nation breaking down that some nations suffer.

2) Let the one with longest duration stick. But then, it might be a long event with a very low RR, and an event that was meant to simulate a temporary hightened threat would do nothing.

3) Let the one with the highest risk stick. But then you'd cancel the effects of longer RR events in some cases (like 2), which is unacceptable.

5) Use the longest duration and highest risk. But then getting hit by several bad RR events in a row won't be any worse than the worst one.

6) Let them stack and last as long as the longest. Yields numerous problems for nations that have long revolt risk events (China, Timurids, Russia) as their RR escalates with each bad RR event. However, these nations were already supposed to be in real trouble, and it won't adversely affect most nations in any major way - so long as nobody adds long RR events or events with high RR in mods.

With the design decision not up for questioning (no major rework likely to be done on something that is functioning), 6) is probably the best solution of those available, though it does impose some restraint on those who script new events, since they may create RR death traps unless they take care.

*Sigh. But I do wish they had designed each nation to have a RR queue to begin with. A bit extra processing power to update the current RR for each nation on a regular basis, of course, but it would sure have been nice*
