Nationalist Spain joining Allies in '39

Had this in my last MP game. The UK player managed to invite the Nationalists to the Allies in mid-39. The war had just started. It didn't take much influencing at all. It wasn't a very sensible move, as the Germans walked over them in no time (though the Allies did manage to cling onto Gibraltar), but Nationalist Spain should not join alliances so easily (early) - especially the Allies.

well, why not... Nat. Spain is on germanys influence list, sometimes things like can happen

Nationalist Spain on Germany's yes ... I can see them joining the Axis, but in this case they joined the Allies, in '39 and with basically no influencing. Sorry, can't see that happening realistically.

it´s also on the UKs list...

why not, there are enough historical examples of semi "fascist" nations joining the allies and democratic one joining the axis.

And if Germany helped them win the civil war in 36? Don't think Franco would do that to the Germans, especially at this very early stage.

I've had Spain join the Allies in two consecutive games, though not as early as 1939. This is in SP when playing Germany. It does seem a bit odd to me too.

But it's an advantage anyways for the Axis/Germany as Spain is easily over run and annexed. No reason to complain though it is a bit odd.

One other suggestion: check to see if there'd been a recent coup. I had a game where I'd been working to get Turkey to join the Allies, then a Nazi coup puts fascists in charge and next thing I know, I'm defending Syria from a bunch of crazed Turks.
