The manual states that 3 units of Mech/armor can carry 1 unit of inf - thus allowing an army with 75% mech/armor to move at higher speed.

Im not sure if this has ever worked? (IIRC i have seen it stated on these boards that it has indeed worked)

Hmm, maybe you don't see what Mechanized and Motorized troops are. They ARE actually infantry units, but in vehicles. Thus giving them higher speeds and slighlty higher attack values (mounted guns etc).

Well, how would the troops move faster, if not carried by trucks/tanks?

Of course - the infantrymen could toss their rifles and boots on the trucks and run real quick along the side of the road - wearing only lightweight underwear.
This would probably require nylon be researched though.

Well, since the original poster wrote ".. can no longer carry .." - I assumed he was referring to the alleged capability that armor/mech can increase the speed of an infantry-unit that they are grouped with.

I think that this function is meant to represent that the infantry is "catching a ride" with the tanks/mech units.

(The manual states that if you group armor/mech with infantry at a 3:1 ratio or more, the whole group can move faster than the infantry would move by itself - thus the armor would be "carrying" the infantry (iirc - i dont have the manual on hand))

[edit: spelling]

See it like the units you build (mot/mech) have infantry men in them.
