German defector?

Just playing as Japan... Got the game difficulty and AI aggression wound right up but am happily beating Nat China around... Except for one god damn army of theirs that always happens to force my troops back, at least the first wave anyway...

Then I notice that the general commanding it doesn't look Chinese and is named "General von Falkenhaust" and has Logistics Wizard, Trickster or Offensive Doctrine (can't remember which) and Fortress Buster as his stats.... He's very much a European from his photo...

The name sounds German (possibly Austrian I gues also) and the guy is no way of Asian origin judging by his photo... Is this correct, or has one of Germany's generals wandered into China's recruitment office by accident?

With his stats, he'd be ideal for Germany to throw at the Maginot line, or at Switzerland if they were to invade there... I really can't see Nat China having much use of a Fortress Buster general... With the exception of Hong Kong in British hands, there aren't that many fortified positions in the area...

This has already been discussed here. He was in fact a German military adviser. So it's all legit. If you look at their air commanders, you may notice Chennault as well. IIRS the first German serviceman killed in WWII or rather in run-up for WWII was some officer serving as a military advisor in China - he was killed by the Japanese in 1937.

I thought it might have already come up, but could not find it... So to satisfy my own curiosity I thought I'd ask...

If it's meant to be that way I have no issues with him being there... Just thought it a little odd at first glance...
