Air Units Ignore Night/Rain

I hope this is a bug and not a feature!

Even the earliest planes seem to be able to fly at night/in bad weather etc.: *This is totally wrong! They should be grounded!!!*

This is nearly as awful as the uselessness of Carriers.

Strategic bombers are a special case because they fly higher, eh...

Quote from Clear The Bridge, by Richard O'Kane, captain of the submarine U.S.S. Tang, describing an airstrike on January 29, 1944 by Coronado flying boats (Tang served as a lifeguard to pick up downed pilots):

"And then the great flying boats were there, looming out of the darkness just above the horizon. Seconds later they were passing over our periscope shears, only a hundred feet above, their blue exhaust flaming at us and marking a line toward Wake."

Admittedly, being flying boats, they wouldn't have to try to land on carriers. But still.

Night bombimgs

Night bombings where a very commong thing. England started bombing German at night in 1941. In addition Germany flew many bomber missions in September and October 1941 during the Russian invasion. THose bombings took place mainly around the Kieve pocket and that time period is heavy rains and mud. I think the proper thing for this is to have a minimum infratruture in place for air missions to take place in bad weather areas.

Example if your infrastructure is 20 or less I would assume your air fields are made of dirt which means in rain you cant land or take off. In infrastruture greater than 20 means that you have cement type run ways available to you and you can execute air missions with penalties.

But the point is that missions where flown under those conditions.

The Night is Right

Speaking as a small aircraft pilot, night flying is not particularly hazardous in and of itself. If you have good navigation points, it is essentially the same as day flying. Light patterns on the ground are your landmarks. That is the very reason for blackouts during bombing raids, to elminate the landmark for the enemy. A famous magician was instrumental in using this concept to misdirect night bombing runs in North Africa. Essentially, they built a smaller replica of the outpost using only lights and then blacked out their own port. The enemy repeatedly bombed the fake.

Bad weather is a bigger problem than darkness. It obscures all ground reference. Still, with a good map, a compass and good reports of winds aloft, even a pre-war biplane can get pretty close to target.
