Annoyance: AI offers absurdly specific amounts that it doesn't have

Ok, I know that others have complained about this, but I'm going to chime in... I've long since accepted that if you make a peace demand to the ai, you're taking your chances as far as how much money the ai will actually fork over. However, it baffles me where the ai comes up with the amounts that it offers when it approaches you with a peace offer -- I suspect that lots of people who don't complain at the forums are hopelessly frustrated when the ai says "I'll give you 386 ducats to make peace" and then only hands over 72. It really shouldn't be allowed to offer more than it has.

This is probably just because by the time you've answered the peace offer, they've spent the money...

Most of the time I get pretty much what they offer, but maybe I've just been lucky that way..

Maybe -- that's what I'd always assumed, but I just watched it happen with an offer from a country whose provinces were all under my control, so, unless they'd just sent off a gift with all their cash to some outside party (which I guess is possible), I don't see where the money could have gone.

something could have happened, like a bad event.

When you do get the peace offer, press pause immediatly. Accept it, and check the amount you receive.

It happens all the time. I occupied all of the Ragusa territories and they offered me every territory except Ragusa, plus 17 ducats. I agreed and I got the territories and 8 ducats. They shorted me 9 ducats. This sounds suspiciously like they used a 9 ducat diplomat somewhere.

Are you sure you didn't have an ally? It sounds a lot like 17 D$ divided on two takers 8.5 rounded to 8 on screen.

Jworth, if you only had one ally, it woudlnt have worked out to be offered 386 and only get 72 or whatever the numbers were... if you had more than one, maybe... or maybe they made peace with someone else or something. I havne't experienced them offering more than they had. You could check it by pausing and saving immediately when there is an offer, and checking their treasury in the save game file.
