AI Fighters

okidoki guys we all know that the ai always just loves those escort fighters... the reason is quite simple actually... in the light aircraft tech file each fighter has a value, basis interceptors has 1 and basis escorts have 3... now what the ai does is that it will always build the highest value unit that it possibly can... e.g. it always builds escort fighters... now if the ai was capable of using fighters to escort bombers or do anything else than intercept strategic bombers, this would not be of too much consern... except that it cant... all it does use fighters for are to intercept strategic bombing missions... so... all you need would be to reverse the values for the fighters so that interceptors gets 3 and escort get 1...

oh all you need to do to fix this is change the model value number in the text.txt file and in the light_aircraft_tech.txt file... add water and let it simmer for a while... bingo instant interceptors :rofl:

This ain't a bug right? Really, it can only be fixed if there is a value imported into the AI files to make a more detailed setup possible

e.g.
interceptors = 5
multirole_fighters = 2
escort_fighters = 3

for example...

no this is not a bug, but it behaves like one... it will enhance the ai's capabilities enormously as the ai only uses the fighters for strategic bomber intercept...

the fighters have a model value that determines which plane the ai will build as it is now the ai will build escort fighters (as soon as it is researched) rather than interceptors which, as i stated before, are quite a good deal more capable of doing the job that the ai assigns to them...

The Ai builds the latest model ( latest is escort because its the 3 )
The ai basic fighter
-> Interceptor ( model 1 )
-> long range ( model 2 )
-> escort ( model 3 ) <--- Thats the latest

anyway it is a matter of changing the model base values not assigning them to the ai files... as i guess it is easier to swap interceptors stats with the escorts... than it is to write a few hundred lines of code ;)

(there are a few places one needs to change, changing the model value in the models.txt is just one of them, you would also need to change/swap the statistics in the DB/units/fighters.txt file to make sure that the interceptors get the correct stats...)

(i know im not terribly coherent always... ;))
