I’m wanting to complete this achievement and looking for tips to do so.* Naval supplies are scattered throughout the globe, not to mention as potentials in events and in new colonies, making this achievement even more complicated to complete.

*

I’m not really wanting to do a world conquest, I don’t think I have the skills to do that yet anyways with Norway at the helm but I know I’ll have to be in conflict with a myrid of nations before the main goal is achieved.

*

My thoughts are to limit my colonial expansion in the New World but get a good foothold in Africa and snake my way over to India (where there are a couple naval supply provinces if I’m not mistaken) while still under PU with Denmark.* However the bulk of the naval supplies look to be scattered across Europe so cannot be ignore too long and that means breaking free of Denmark.

*

I’m considering moving my capital to Africa in the Ivory Coast Trade Zone to capture trade from Asia and not have to compete with my more trade centric neighbors in Europe.* While at the same time start to make inroads around the Baltic Sea.* I saw lots of Naval Supply produced in that area.* Luckily GB appears to have no NS so I think can be safely ignored as can most of HRE.* France and Spain will likely be the big sticklers.

*

I’m hoping to obtain enough cash in trade that I can afford strong Merc armies to do most of the heavy work as Norway’s military and manpower have a lot to be desired.

*

Does this sound to be a workable strategy or am I going to have to be more aggressive in my start?* Should I ignore the New World?* I am thinking of rushing colonization and it maybe that taking a good portion of South America since it feeds in to the Ivory Coast Trade Node is not a bad diversion if it doesn’t slow down the rest of the primary objective.

*

Any suggestions?

I think you should conquer the colonisers...Starting with Portugal/Castille and then France>England>Netherlands.

Yes, but PU and integrate them one at a time so they have time to do your colonizing for you for all that trade money. I'd start with England/GB and France since you share a node and North America is more important to Norway. You won't profit much from the Caribbean and South America until you take over the Antwerpen node.

Being stuck in the PU will slow you down, I'm trying to work out how to do this myself, you need to heavily colonise because if you dont someone else will, those colonies might get those supplies and thats one less you have to worry about taking.

France has at least 1 but another big target is Moscovy, there were several regions with it by novgorod. Might be worth taking them before Moscovy gets really big and powerful. Of course you'll then have border friction with them all game as well, keeping Norway is a must since youve got a few there. As you say, theyre everywhere and it's not easy to figure out where, there needs to be a ledger for resources. Would hate to think ive done it only to miss a province thats really small somewhere. Especially out in the Pacific.

PU with a big coloniser sounds like an interesting idea, but those first years im not sure what you can do when youre under Denmark.

Conquering the colonizers is definitely ideal but no idea how that I'd be able to form a PU with one of them while under a PU and being as MP/ducat poor as I am. My limited income keeps me from colonizing really fast as well. Cant even do the raid the Aztecs for gold (can't declare war) while still in the PU with Denmark. I was doing an early game as Norway where I had 3 colonizers available but it was rare I could even afford to keep up 2. Sometimes had to even go 1 or 0 for a while depending upon revolts and other events around me. Next thing I knew France was taking 1/2 NA and the Caribbean was equal parts me, Portugal and Spain.

The trick is to hop at first, I was able to block off the entire eastern seaboard as Norway, but I learnt that if you leave a space between colonies(except for maybe the awesome manhatten area ones), the AI won't dump a colony in between them. The cost is linked to the basetax as well, so those good ones will cost a lot. So have a 4 basetax or above one going, then grab a 1 or 2 with your other colonist. If need be, bring the colonist slider half way, and let the colonist do the hard work when youre struggling. Just dont forget that you'll need to move your capital to faraoe islands or shetlands to move to America. I've never been able to survive a swedish onslaught, but ive learnt a lot about combat in that time, having shed loads of cannons can make all the difference against them.

Also consider that long term, if you move your capital to America, that you'll have to use the locals in a diplo-annex to core more territories, since they'll cost a fortune when theyre classed as "local". If you can get all the way to mexico you'll soon have to worry about spain using a core in West South America to be able to springboard onto the western NA seaboard. Then its a landrush for all the minor islands towards Australia.

I couldn't imagine doing this achievement, if only because the trade map mode doesn't have resource icons on provinces. Is there any way to tell at a glance or do you guys have to click on every province? Don't have EU4 open so I can't check.

There is no way. The closest is the tooltip of the supply stat of a resource, which lists the number of provinces which have that resource, and the top suppliers. I guess one could keep production low on purpose so that the AI provinces will surpass the player's provinces in production, and thus show up in the tooltip.

Id rather wait for the new patch as well, when border friction is nerfed. I only want one province, be nice if the other side didnt see me as public enemy number 1 just because we share a border. Outside of Europe, it will be "easy" imho. Taking that French one will suck. I think for Europe you'll have to use PU as a weapon, dont think you can just launch a random claim on a random province right?

bump!

This achievement is to my liking, anyone done it?

I have my strategies that work well and they revolve around quick colonising and controlling Russian expansion. But I cant decide wether or not to convert to protestant. When you already have some orthodox russian provinces and 15+ provinces in america by the time reformation hits we're talking about a humungous conversion job =/

Don't forget, Siberian provinces can get an event to get naval resources as well, so be sure to keep checking those.

That said, it's pretty much a half world conquest, and should be seen as being of that difficulty.

Good points, I'd say it is vital to either PU/vassalise Russia (impossible for Norway?), or conquer them outright. Best to conquer them early any way since you need to own much of eastern Europe. (wood in Baltics, Novgorod, Hungary, Lithuania and one province in the middle of HRE...)

So either own Siberia or make sure noone else does, it would be a logistical nightmare to fight a major power for wood there.
