I've just finished a game where i attempted That's a silk Road with the ottomans, and altough my paint skills were super funny(wrecked all the asia nations into tons of bits)it didn't seem like quite a hard challenge. I managed to get it under 1620 playing casually no truce break etc. taking it slow and fun.Now i was thinking to take on Norwegian wood achievemnt and i got a little shocked by how hard it is then the silk road.
The fact that you have to start with norway is one ,you take more time to actaully start blobbing. Not like silkroad where you can choose ottos or any other nation.
You have to take lands from France,Muscovy,Ottos etc all the big bad boogies that are lucky nations in this game.
And if im not mistaken naval supplies can spawn randomly in colonies so you have to get castille and portugal integrated.

From this point it seems to be even harder than a 1 tag WC with the broken Austria.I want to know if it's possible to do it with norway just aiming for the lands you want or if i should break the system by revoking the privivlegia and do a 1 tag wc or at least aiming for the naval supplies.
It seems way more harder since most of the nations that keep your provinces are lucky western one beside the fact that you have to chase into asia for them aswell.

I don't want suggestions for starting as norway if it's possible, just if it requires gamish tactics or it can be done cassually with some thinking.

I'm inclined to agree that only The Three Mountains is really harder, since Norwegian Wood is almost a Norwegian WC, and Norway is a pretty rough start. Though that's kind of overstating it. You mostly need the coasts plus about 20 provinces that are more than one province from a coast (though this includes Hungary, Nepal, Cherokee, Manchuria, and the middle of Asian steppes (Kazakh and Nogai areas)), so it's still a lot of land.

That said, the only particularly hard part is the start, and once you get rolling, it shouldn't be much different from doing it as any other nation. The Ottomans are unlikely to be a real threat since they can't seem to get their blob on in 1.8, so your main obstacles are France, Castile, and Muscovy, and Muscovy seems to get off to a slower start in 1.8, too.

I'm currently doing the achievement with Norway and it's not that hard. The start can be a bit tricky though, I managed to beat up Sweden in a never ending war and got the ball rolling fairly quickly. Allying Austria is very helpful obviously and getting the novgorodian ports will slow Muscovy down. After all you don't need much provinces, colonize where naval supplies can spawn and take the provinces you need. Also take Lübeck, Hamburg is the answer to all your money problems...

Not casual, not impossible enough to be gamey. Once you're powerful enough, it takes one victory over most majors to get what you need. The hard part is to become strong enough to start conquering from majors, given that opportunities for expansion are very limited and your neighbours are stronger than you, appart from Scotland.

One thing to remember is that being attentive can make this one MUCH easier. Note the nastier wood locations early on, and watch for opportunities. France lost their wood province briefly in a war, and I swooped in and grabbed it before they undoubtedly would have taken it back. That saved me so so so much work.

Of course, I also move Norway to the New World, which I guess would be less effective now. :)
