Norwegian "states"

First of all, is "state" really the correct name? There is only the Administrative divisions of "counties" in Norway (Fylker) like Telemark, Buskerud, Vestfold, Nordland etc - and within them again we have "kommuner" - but that is too small of a scale for this game anyhow. I am not sure about the rest of the world and the rest of the countries though, but I would guess the word "state" would be out of place more often than not

But perhaps "Regions" would be a more suitable name? It would, at least for Norway.

Also the names... As the game is English (language) why not use English names?

Ostlandet - Eastern Norway
Vestlandet - Western Norway
Trondelag - Mid Norway
Nordnorge - Northern Norway

Ostlandet - is Østlandet btw.
Trondelag - is Trøndelag btw.
Nordnorge - is Nord-Norge.... Most important one.

If you cannot use Ø, that is ok, but Nordnorge should in any way NOT be called Nordnorge, but Nord-Norge

They have to be called the same thing for multiple reasons (including the fact that if one country had states, and another had regions, but they were exactly the same thing in terms of gameplay, it would be rather confusing for a new player).

I’m not a big fan of “states”, but it works rather well with the US, Germany and every other federal state.
Regions could be confused with air or sea regions.

"Counties" has a very anglosaxon feeling to me but that’s just me.

They would have to increase minimum specs significantly if they wanted to model counties where I am from, states are more appropriate. Municipalities, states, and counties, etc. it all depends on where you are from and what you/ your country decide to organize & name things.

I feel mildly obliged to respond to this, and I'll say that states is a general concept used for every division of that type on the map. It doesn't always correspond to historical "state"-level divisions, but that's a gameplay abstraction every country will have to live with.

As for Nordnorge, Ostlandet and Trondelag, be happy you're not suffering like the Danes, with their capital in... Sjaelland!
