Buy the AMericsan Version then. Round the edge of a map are all the shields in the game and few that aren't. Nice touch I thought.

You aren't missing much. It's just a map of empty provinces - you can't actually see what country is in them, or if any country is.

It also kind of ruins the fun of exploration - at least the first game or so.

It is a nice reference though.

Why ruin a nice map by writing on it!
Just print out the maps in the Mod forum that already have the province numbers on them. I use the big map to locate province names.
