Iceland ought to be independant. It might be small but it has a placement that is quite strategically important. Besides there are countries that have fewer IC's in the game. The US should probably have military acces since they provide icelands military defense. But if it cant be made independant it should probably belong to one of the scandinavian countries since they (if I am not totally mistaken) are already cooperating with the rest of scandinavia in a lot of areas.

Historically Canadian Cruisers were named after Provinces. However, modern Frigates (basically large destroyers or light cruiser), are named after Provincial and Territorial Capitols. WW2 and post-war Destroyers were named after either Great Rivers, or Amerindian Tribes. Usually there was a pattern or cycle to the names (i.e., all ships of one class or era named using the same system). Most likely any new large vessel would either be named after Amerindian Tribes or Rivers, since current Frigates are named after Capitol cities and redundancy would be avoided.

Thanks. Since I generally have no clue for the naming systems of countries (except US and Japan), that type of information helps. I thought it was clever to use provincial state birds as the names for carriers though.

Could you give me a link or give me some Amerindian tribes and whatnot?

Yeah, you hit the mark for the Canadian Carriers!

It really depends how detailed you want to get, as there are innumerable (well, the number is finite) First Nations that you could use.

Iroquoian languages include Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, Erie, Neutral, Tobacco, and Huron, located primarily in Central Canada. (Pick and choose, as "HMCS Neutral" might not be a very formidable warship name)

This website seems pretty thourough

However, keep in note that the HMCS Haida is a museum in Ontario, and that the HMCS Athabasca was sunk in WW2 (so I don't know if it will be reused).

I'd be more than happy to help.

Carriers: Warrior(CVL)
Magnificent(CVL)
Boneventure(CVL)
Colossus(CVL)
Nabob(CVE)
Puncher(CVE)

Cruisers: Ontario
Quebec
Prince Robert
Prince Henry
Prince David
Alberta*
Manitoba*
Saskatchewan*
Nova Scotia*
New Brunswick*
British Columbia*
Prince Edward Island*

* - I'm guessing that had Canada had more cruisers they would have called named them after the other provinces.

Now if you are going to include battleships in your mod I would move the cruiser names up to the BB's and I can give you names for the cruisers.

I found this a usefull site to use. http://www.hazegray.org/navhist/canada/
