First come first serve is a headache, i'm not going to ever try to get that one.. I can never expand fast enough to keep france and england, and norway out... Norway is actually a decent problem in canada, they get there very, very soon if they stay independent.

They're not to be kept out, as its basicly impossible to solo expand hard enough to fill out Americas ... conquer all the natives, but otherwise let the colonizers expand as much as they like, and steal their land when you get post-1650/1700, and most of America is colonized

First Come First Serve is actually surprising easy when you've figured that part out ... its just tediously long since you'll have to wait till late 1700s before all provinces is colonized ... so its a good achievement to do something else at the same time. I first tried a game where i kept them as much out of America as possible, and by 1750 i threw in the towel since there was still 200some provinces uncolonized, which only i could touch, and i couldn't do it in time.

I have OCD when it comes to the new world... As soon as i see someone competing i have to delcare war immediately... Not sure why, i just feel like if anyone gets a colony then im screwed in the long run.

tl;dr ... Conquer all natives, colonize CoTs up the eastern coast (for collecting in Gulf of St. Lawrence, as thats where most things go), and otherwise colonize from the western seaboard eastwards, conquering colonial Nations when they can't expand further ... Have a couple of fleets play zonal defense, or simply blockade the hell out of the Europeans, and sit on the CN's till they're willing to give

Damn, that's insane. Isn't your AE like over 9000 now? (lol) I'd assume everyone in the world now wants to kill you. But they cant when you've got a blob like that..

Nope ... Its so far away that absolutely noone cares other than the single Colonial Nation that at that point was fighting for Independence... remember, AE is dependent on distance and even lower if its also on another continent than their capital.

Your opinion is unfortunately, provably incorrect.

+1 Shock means that you will always get an extra +1 Shock on top of whatever you roll. So you always get a better general, not a chance of a better general. 1 Shock pip is easily worth more than 5% discipline, especially in the early game where Cavalry are about 5 times better (offensively) than soldiers (though they still take the same damage).

The exception to the rule is where you would have rolled a 6 in shock, then I believe it rolls over to the siege roll. But a 6 shock general being randomly generated is incredibly rare at the start of the game.

What you say would be true, if Tor worked.

Last time I used Norse, I selected that deity and rolled a few generals. I got more than one with 0 shock. I would certainly weight +1 shock as stronger for most of the game, if not all of it, but I weight 5% discipline as markedly better than 10% fort defense by itself.

As for the deity choices, Odin should dominate every choice unless really desperate for Tyr (or Tor if it actually works now).

Snotra is a wet noodle for monarch point savings and is only worth considering if going on a massive building spree, which I could get behind if you're just picking it as the deity for a 4 year republic cycle on one of the old rulers you're not re-electing.

I haven't played a Norse game since ~1.11 times, but can confirm that it didn't necessarily give you +1 shock back then. If it was just a "bad general" outcome I might still buy it, but if you have 0 shock with +1 shock something is wrong.

Last time I used Norse, I selected that deity and rolled a few generals. I got more than one with 0 shock. I would certainly weight +1 shock as stronger for most of the game, if not all of it, but I weight 5% discipline as markedly better than 10% fort defense by itself.

As for the deity choices, Odin should dominate every choice unless really desperate for Tyr (or Tor if it actually works now).

Snotra is a wet noodle for monarch point savings and is only worth considering if going on a massive building spree, which I could get behind if you're just picking it as the deity for a 4 year republic cycle on one of the old rulers you're not re-electing.

Isn't the +1 just a base value applied more generally? Like i think it means you can consider any general to have +1 more in that value than his pip(s) show

I did For Odin following advice in the wiki. Oddly, the link to that article from the Achievements page isn't there anymore. The gist was to take four high development England provinces plus Meath, conquer Ireland, then Scotland, then England. I did it on second attempt; quit first one when France declared.

Here I have been trying to to go for for odin while in the hre, trying to build up from a small state but it is a bit tedious. That start with London while being in the hre thing is clever.

Next time I play I think I will have to try a republic! I have been using theocracy for now as it has no real downside but it does make deity choices last longer. There is one option to get a foreign noble as an heir which can help form alliances. The relationship penalty from not being able to marry and the different religion thing is pretty big.

I have OCD when it comes to the new world... As soon as i see someone competing i have to delcare war immediately... Not sure why, i just feel like if anyone gets a colony then im screwed in the long run.
Well that's the wrong mentality then. You can't expect to do well in the game if you can't bide your time and make the move only when maximally advantageous

I used to think that, too. Tor actually works but unfortunately not in the very first month, in which you chose him.
On the other side, you can still benefit from the +1 shock the whole month, that your Tor-ruler dies, in case that you still need a good general(or if your new ruler just sucks - though I'm not sure, if the +1 shock affects ruler and heir combat stats)
