I've got it on good authority that the Norse culture will not split if a "strong norse empire" exists. What counts as a strong norse empire? And what is this I hear of the system changing with the next patch?

Eskild the Magnificent rules Denmark in the South, Norway to the West, and Sweden to the East, and as 950 fast approaches, I'd really appreciate it if Norse split.

As I understand it, the current game the split always happens, despite old patch notes claiming it doesn't. The new patch will actually implement the strong realm exception. I don't know if there's been any elaboration on what a "strong realm" is exactly. Presumably the Empire of Scandinavia qualifies.

Unless something more recent changed this, the catch is supposed to be that the Empire of Scandinavia must exist, but the Kingdoms of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway cannot exist in order to prevent the Norse split.

That and I *think*Norse realms outside De Jure Scandinavia remain Norse. I'd have to look at the event files or drag up an old Ireland game and play it to 950 to be sure.

You might be able to circumvent it with custom kingdoms though I'm not sure of that either. The Kingdom tags are what triggers the culture split. Obviously, not in your current game but if you do another.

I can confirm that this is the case even in the current patch. I've been playing a Norse realm in Mauritania and it's still Norse culture in like 1150.
