What are the normal expected percentages of time one can expect to suffer under a regency council? I have been playing for about 200 years now, and I have been under regency councils for almost 50 of those years. It get quite frustrating having kings die when their heirs are one year old. Your legitimacy goes down the toilet, and you can't declare war on anyone all that time. Is 25% of the time under a regency council normal or have I just been unlucky?

You can have kings that live for very long and you have those who live short, it's rather random. In most of my games i havn't had that long in a fairly short time, but there were games where i had that long or longer. So i would say you got a bit unlucky in this particular game.

I've had a king thats ruled for 94 years before, outliving 3 of his hiers. I have also had kings that come to the throne and within a month die (not in combat). In my current HRE game its 1522 and my king was crowned in 1509 with a 3 year old son as of 1522. For the last 3 years i've had to reload the game 8 times so far because the game realy seems to want him to die lol.

playing as Moscowy, i had a heir come to the throne with 40 legitment. he had terrible stats, legitment went down to 5, he went on to rule for 76 years. he then finally died and the planet threw a big celebration. heir with full 100 legtiment took to the throne, he died not 1 year later. regency council for 40 years.

That is ugly. Which brings up another question I had about bad kings. Can you convert them to generals, assign them to a one unit army, and send them to their deaths? Do they always die when their stack is wiped?

Not always. You could also have him seige fully defended level 2 or 3 forts with a single infantry unit too, to improve your odds. But sometimes they just refuse to bite the bullet.

I once tried to kill a 3/3/4 king by putting him on a cog (or whatever my current transport was), and sent him into the middle of the Atlantic to drown since the asaulting forts thing wasn't working. Somehow, though the one thousand men unfortunately sent with him were never heard from again (and god knows how many crew on the cog) my king survived. Appeared safe and sound back in the capital, after what I can only assume was an incredible adventure involving a freindly pod of whales and the lost city of Atlantis.

It's really quite random how many regencies you get as EU3 just loves to kill your heirs and how long your kings live can vary wildly. You can generally expect to get at least a couple for each game you play. It's not too bad though if you get enough marriges to counteract the legitmacy drain and use things like alliances and warnings to get yourself into wars.

If it becomes too much of a hassle though you always have the option of switching over the a republic. No regencies there.

For that, we need to head over to the wiki for the very nice government tree that should really be included in the game.

As you can see, breaking out of theocracy requires government tech 27 and a fair bit of stability indeed.
