I got EU when it first came out but was so wrapped up in a few other games I was playing that I never gave it a chance. Now I'm interested in playing it but I noticed that EU2 is out. What are the differences, which versions do you like better and why? Should I get EU2 and forget about EU or what? Thanks in advance for your opinions.

EU2 makes EU feel like a demo. :)
It's better in everyway. :)
Domestic policies, new event engine, more countries, 100 more years(1419-1820).

See the EU2 forum for more info. :)

But EU2 certainly has its charm. Get patch 1.10 and check it out. :)

Well, if you're going to get it, get it, but play EU1 as much as possible beforehand. I got EU1 by accident, and now I'm waiting to get EU2. I will probably agitate for it when Christmas rolls around, but I can wait if I don't get it then.

Wow guys, fast replies! Thanks!
Since I am a game addict, I will buy EU2 before they stop selling it and start off with EU1 first. I'll check out the EU2 forums as suggested. Do many people do multiplayer or is it too long and hard to get everyone on at the same time to play?

a question for C.R.: I think there used to be a thread in EU2 forum called "why EU2" or similar, discussing the differences between EU1 and EU2. I can't find it now. Can you find and post the link on this thread?

a question for you all: is EU2 worth buying for $100 when I can get EU1 for $20? I've been playing EU1 with patch 1.10 and IGC for the last three months, but the CD has just been reclaimed by my brother-in-law! I am having withdrawl symptoms.

For the difference in $ I could buy
****** 6 bottles of reasonable Aussie Cab Sauv
*** 3 good jazz CDs
* or 1 bottle of Moet and get back into my wife's good books...

Any suggestions?:(

There are threads like "why EU2" everywhere: on the EU1 forum, on the EU2 forum, and most probably on the French forum too. By the way, in my area, EU isn't worth more than 70$, taxes included, so it isn't that bad either... If you can't play at EU1 or feel that you have gone through all the options that EU1 has to offer, then you should go out, make a man of yourself and buy the game. ;)

Europa Univeralis 2 lasts forever. :)

Thanks for being so helpful. :( This was a specific thread among the many of Eu1 vs Eu2 threads (and a crapload of these are not very useful) that I read a couple of weeks ago and wanted to get back to. I couldn't find a way to search for a specific thread name.

... but I've finally searched though 70-odd pages to find it.

P.S I've bought another copy of EU1 for now. I'll ask Santa for EU2, doesn't he live somewhere close to Paradox?
