I could agree to:

Conquest is the better mode for competetive play and for Team vs. Team play up to 4vs4.

Destruction is better mode for the casual/pub play and learning the game and up to 10vs10.

I finally beat medium! (SS attached)

Thanks to all of y'all for your help.

This is the battlegroup I used to win:
Jh2vYrFysYGx4rGRsWGx8rIBslKykbKCuAKvka+BswGvorChsNGvsbEys0K7YbDisCGwkbLhsHGy8buB

(I know it's probably a little deficient, but I am slowly getting the use of it)

Things I got wrong and corrected:

  • Cyberiank mentioned not to push the middle of the map in the beginning, but setup slightly behind and wait for enemy to push and then counter push. This alone was extremely useful and allowed for my line to progress and for me to "fill in the gaps" as needed.
  • I use tanks as anti-infantry only now instead of trying to get them 1v1 with enemy tanks
  • I try to keep an even line so that way my units do not get enveloped.
  • I use 'Q' button instead of right clicking for units. (This is perhaps the second biggest mistake I was making)
  • Use air force to destroy anti-tank and anti-personnel/arty cannon units.
  • I now use recon units (didnt before because I didnt feel their need was great, but now I noticed with them your long range guns have more time to fire and setup. also the ability to see enemy rushes before hand is extremely helpful)
  • My understand of the "stars under units" was non-existent. I am guessing now these are relating to their battle experience and more stars means better units with better stats? (I try to kill higher stars first)

Now that I can beat the AI on medium I feel good enough to play multiplayer and not noob it up for my team.

There's still a lot that I am learning, again thanks everyone for the helpful tips.

Best feeling to succeed in this kind of games. I remember how happy it made me feel when I finally started to make sense of European Escalation and Red Dragon :D .

Yeah, that's some good news :)

I didn't realy get the difference until now. Does it change the way the unit behave when attacking ? Is it more effective ?

Learning and using the Attack-Move command ist probably the most crucial thing to learn in this game.

A unit on Attack move will stop as soon as it is in range of an opposing unit and engage it, once the threat is cleared it will continue moving towards the direction you ordered it to. This is most important with tanks, since they cannot use their main cannon on the move and and getting the first shot will decide a tank battle more often than not.

There are exceptions, when you dont want to attack move, for example: enemy infantry is pinned down and no commander nearby -> fast move/ right click walk towards it and make it surrender. Autocannon vehicles can use their gun on the move, which is handy to get onto flanks of bigger vehicles (with a -2 debuff to their accuracy)

But in general the attack-move should be your default command when you are not fast-moving down a road or have a good reason not to use it.

There is also a brand new mechanic I might incorporate into my game but I am still to afraid/lazy to use it yet. Remember your one tank or vehicle you fastmoved down the flank and forgot about only to find out that it somehow died? Well there is a solution now. When you fast move a unit set it on return fire. Once it gets shot at it will automaticly stop and...well...return fire. It will most likely not get the first shot off but it is better then mindlessly driving down the road and get blown to pieces.

The economist in me loves destruction, but the sane part of me loves conquest
Why?

CQ is a much better example of economy, you have an amount of intermediate resources (currency) that are used to create wealth/assets (land)

Do you trade at a loss vs the enemy in points for land?

Do you attempt to give ground while building up a point advantage for a later push with superior numbers?

It's far more dynamic and multifaceted than just you each get X income and try to use it to directly deplete each other's total wealth.

Yeah I'm starting to beat medium AI myself and the satisfaction is huge. Still I used Indianhead, Scots and french and I feel I had a slight advantage units wise on any german army I faced (mainly Rommel Zircus).
I'm missing tactical knowledge on how to use AA units which seem to be useful in some cases though.
Also I can use tips on how to protect AT guns; it annoys me plenty when tanks or machine guns erase them. I strongly rely on AT guns to keep my frontlines covered.

Has anybody managed to beat 3AD (Medium AI) using 12SS in 40 minutes? I'm geting a bit obsessed with the challenge.

Got so close yesterday, got to holding two thirds of the map at one stage but then ran out of units and just got infiltrated all the way back to the start line :(

(The other way round - beating12SS using 3AD is quite do-able).
