Hello all,

Any help would be tremendously helpful.

I clicked for it to attack and when it did the enemy tank turned around instantly and fired a shot to kill my tank before my crew finished "aiming". This is tremendously frustrating and extremely unrealistic IMO.

In the previous game I had a tank walk straight up to the most remote and random place where I was hiding a unit deep in the forest and it moved in and annihilated them. Try playing 15th Infantry (Scots). Rush your Infantry (Rifles supported by one leader per major location) into some Houses and Forests with good line of sight onto the enemy incoming paths. Have overlapping fields of fire don't put all units horded together in one spot and have them supported by Anti-Tank guns and later Crocodiles/CommandChurchills. Then when you learned defending slowly move your border forward.
That is a very static playstyle but against AI it works best you can be more offensive against players but AI is just rushing you dumb all the time there defensive works best.

Here are many usefuly tips and links: https://www.reddit.com/r/Steel_Division/comments/68n65r/starter_looking_for_tips/

First thing I'd say before any advice is given: Go watch the replays. They can be found in the "Profile" section of the main menu. Watch the game from the AI's point of view so you can see exactly what they saw. The AI has been known to cheat so the tank that randomly found your recon was probably told to go "search" the area, but for everything else the replay can usually show you what went wrong. About the tank turning and shooting before your tank had a chance to fire, turret traverse speeds are way too fast and Eugen knows this. Now whether they fix it or not is a completely different matter. They've known for 6 years that people leaving multiplayer games ruins the experience for everyone else but have yet to do a damn thing soooo....

Anyways, watch the replays and then come back and ask for help on how to correct what you did wrong.

EDIT: fixed some of my horrendous grammar

Thanks, I will definitely check out the replays and am reading through the start tips page above.

Good. I hate just telling people "Go watch the replays!" because it's kinda the canned response for "I need help getting better", but they really are your best first resource for learning the game and correcting your mistakes.

Hello all,

Any help would be tremendously helpful.

I am finding this game EXTREMELY frustrating. When it comes to strategy games, I take to them like a duck in water. However with that said, I am STILL (after 10+ games) unable to beat the game 1v1 on medium difficulty.

I am being outclassed in speed deployment, 1v1 fights between similar units, and blitzkrieged by allied forces on foot.

The last game I played, I had a better tank (more armor, bigger gun, long sight/shot) go up against a lighter tank, sneaking up to it's left flank while it was looking the other way. I clicked for it to attack and when it did the enemy tank turned around instantly and fired a shot to kill my tank before my crew finished "aiming". This is tremendously frustrating and extremely unrealistic IMO.

I am using scouting parties to sit in great vantage points to look for enemy units, but they never find anything until the enemy is right on them (which the computer always knows exactly where to find them). In the previous game I had a tank walk straight up to the most remote and random place where I was hiding a unit deep in the forest and it moved in and annihilated them. No scouts, no infantry, nothing just knew exactly where to find them and kill them.

Thank you in advance.

You don't have to let yourselve down, because of that or have to be frustrated. the ai of this game is only really effective and efficient with ist Units and Acts pretty aggressive. It Shows us litterally, how to Play and i needed myself a few games to beat medium ai. It has some really surprising moves in the backhand.
On the other Hand, Multiplayer (especially 3v3s and 4v4s are much easier, than playing against medium ai, because most Players are much more cautious than the ai.

I too would recommend to play against actual players. The AI is pretty good, but never like an actual player. Medium AI shouldn't cheat though. Hop into a 4v4 (skip the 10v10, it might feel safe and comfy but it's inherently broken and does not reflect the standard gameplay), make friends and play with them. This game is at its best when played with friends.

Don't be afraid to experiment, don't be afraid to be aggressive, exploit gaps in the line - this can be done even with single cheap units. Get to know how far you can go and how to fight. Utilize mortars, utilize line of sight and smoke. This game is incredibly deep even though it might seem shallow from the surface, and there's a lot to learn and the best way to do it is by playing and finding the limits of yourself and the game.

When I say the AI cheats, I don't mean like in Wargame how the AI would get extra units. I mean that AI actually knows exactly where everything is, it just acts like it doesn't and sometimes it forgets to keep the act up.

I know what you mean, but how i understood the defs in the streams, the ai doesn't cheat at all. it only sees, what it is supposed to see from Recon and Los, like the Player. Correct me if i am wrong, but i think, they said that.

You just told someone to play destruction and now I don't know if I'll ever be able to trust you again...

Yeah, well, some people enjoy conquest because they can resort to conquer one meaningless fields and hedgerow more than the enemy and then wait for the war to end by itself (and before christmas) :)

I ve never read about one battle or war that has been decided like that.

Pick one spot that looks like it's tank friendly. Kick some tanks down that with mech infantry if possible. You want to find a defensible spot maybe 70-80% down through map. Then identify the other avenues the AI could attack down. Find a spot about halfway down the map that looks defensible on those routes. Send infantry and at guns to those spots.

Once you've achieved this, send some AT guns and scouts to help your tanks hold.

Basically you want to decide where you're going to attack, and then defend everywhere else. The early deep armor push increases your income and keeps the AI from being able to call in more units than you can. If this deep push is getting attacked, it means the AI is weaker elsewhere, so try pushing some of your roadblocks forward. If they're laying into your roadblocks it means you've got space to move your tanks try grabbing some more territory or shutting down a land access point (just occupy the space around one of the roads the enemy uses to come on the map, they cant/won't use it any more).

From here I usually just send more better tanks to the armor push as I can, and AA everywhere. This is usually enough to keep the AI trimmed back.

Post replay of your last game, its even better if we can see it so we can exactly tell you what you did wrong or what could be done better....
I see its frustrating to ppl who never played previous Wargame titles, but hold on, you will get better :)

And one more thing: Dont listen to Tank Girl and his biased and stupid lessons (like the one below) about which division you must play and which game mode you must play (person with who no one ever agrees :D )... thats up to you ;-)

Play 12th SS only.
Dont play Conquest like ever.

All useful tips. Still I have to say that taking on medium AI using 12ss or luftlande is way more difficult than using, for example, the Scots.
Scots deck is way more forgiving, while 12ss, is not, and if the enemy unleashes tanks in phase A you have very few resources to defend yourself. I've watched my anti tank guns being sniped by a Churchill 5 and a 6 pounder 1shot my Firefly Beute. From that point it just snowballed into a disaster and you are doomed to retreat and wait for panthers to save the day, some 10 minutes later...

Dont listen to Duro either, all he says is only viable when you do like 1000 clicks per minute (which suggests you might better try starcraft lol).

Ofc you can play any division you like, but if you want to be active in the game and take initiative (which is important in both defense and offense) you need to be able to control your tanks efficiently.
Something especially conquest players just dont have to do, since tanks do not decide those games (or at least very rarely).

In conquest, just listen to what the other people say but be prepared to be dissapointed by Steel Divsion then :)

I don't even..

I've never seen anyone give such an outrageous blanket statement before, saying that Conquest players don't have to control their tanks.

It's almost like you want people to hate on your posts by saying "play nothing but 12.SS" and "don't play Conquest". It's mind-boggling..
