Hello,

I started playing as Germany and have already read the guide in wiki. It said that I should create serial runs of factories, but I have no idea how to that. If I click the improve industry in a province, it goes to production as a parallel run, if I have understood correctly. How can I change them to a serial run? I play vanilla HoI2 (1.3b).

Think of each province as a parallel run, and you can make many serial runs in each province (although I don't think there's a gearing bonus, so use with caution).

You can't build two factories in a province at once, I'm afraid.

EDIT: Now that I look at your post again, I'm not even sure if I understood you correctly and answered your question at all.

You make it a serial run by clicking the build factory button several times in the same province. But you should NOT do so. Factories get no benefit from serial runs, but if production is underfunded for even one hour on a serial factory run that has more than one completed, it's 'gearing' get's reset and you lose ALL production on the current build. Build them one at a time, in multiple provinces, and when a factory finishes and the build clears build another.

Thanks! I think I did understand it. :) So, for example, when I train 10 infantry in serial mode, the production info shows that 0/10 is ready to deploy. I save IC, but it takes a longer time to build them in serial mode. So is it the same with factories with the difference that I don't get the gearing bonus? If I click two times in a province to improve industry, does it show in the production info like 0/2 ready?

BLOODY HELL! I never realized that, and here I was adding factories to my queue left and right, not caring about such things.

Yeah, just like Ericus1 said as well. Of course, he recommended against it, and according to the reason he gave for his recommendation, I'd have to second that.

Production doesn't get reset on the serial run if you underfund it. You lose the gearing bonus (which factories dont get a benefit from anyway) however.

In short- build them in parellel or serial, it doesn't matter. Everything else should be built in serial if you want more than one, as you'll get a gearing bonus.

When the gearing bonus get's cleared, you lose all current production for the factory. Do not build factories in parallel.

Factories don't get a gearing bonus to begin with. The idea that production gets reset at any rate is quite simply incorrect. Queue in a serial run of factories, make a note of the time it takes for the first one to complete. Let the game run for a few days. Then set IC on production to 0 for a day. Take another look at the time it takes for the first factory to complete. You should find it is now one day later (as you underfunded it for a day). Production won't be fully reset.

Dude, this is a well known and documented bug. Seriously, you're talking out of your ass. It's not the FIRST factory that has a problem, it's any SUBSEQUENT factories. Yes, factories do not benefit from gearing, that's already been well established. But they STILL SUFFER from the penalty associated with gearing getting reset by underfunding: all production for the CURRENT (NOT FIRST) unit gets reset back to zero along with the gearing.

I agree those factories that should have finished end of Nov come out in Jan or whenever depending on what you have been doing, Personally I prefer to build factories on serial, with the last 1 or 2 on para, just in case of any mishaps on the production side of things so the damage is limited

What do you mean, "well known and documented bug"? It certainly doesn't show up in the cumulative bug threads. Do you have a link on it?

If you don't believe me, test it yourself. I don't know why it isn't in the bug thread, perhaps because it's one of those flaws that's considered WAD. I do know that it has been discussion numerous times before in the forums (which is what I was refering to), usually in the frequent German IC whoring threads that pop up, and I've seen it myself.
