OK let me quote myself:
I don't believe the reasons cited for this policy. I think it's a "pre-emptive strike" against potentially dissatisfied users - who don't usually frequent the forums - in relation to the upcoming FTL change. With this policy in place potential dissenters can be silenced under the guise of retaining civility
Let me go into some detail on exactly why I think this.
Martin, when the FTL diary was announced conceded that it was "controversial" and boy oh boy it sure was

The forum divided with a vocal minority (of
forum users) getting, quite frankly, really annoyed with 1) the FTL change and 2) the "holier than thou" responses from the BlackUmbrellas of the forum to their (100% justified IMO) anger.
So, given the hostility and bad feeling generated, I feel it stands to reason that Paradox have introduced this change to policy
in advance of 2.0 being released in an effort to prevent potentially angry customers - who were not part of the first wave (customers who do not read forums or keep up to date with the likes of Dev Diaries) - from venting on the forum and warring with the trolls from 2) above. I mean there are a lot of folks out there who do not read forums etc so I'd be surprised if there was no 2nd wave at all.
When/ If they do turn up it'll get explosive when the BlackUmbrellas shoot them down in flames of righteousness for *gasp* daring to have a dissenting opinion.
It's like sailors battening down the hatches before a storm hits. Sure, the storm might miss but... it might not
A decent sense of caution and doubt is probably healthy and perhaps Blackumbrellas is a little naive, but in contrast you yourself (and some others in this thread) should take care that paranoia doesn't cloud your perception either. Please understand that I mean this with respect.
As I mentioned before, deception and censorship on the scale being implied is not in Paradox's best business interests, for multiple reasons including the fact that it simply isn't worth the time and effort to coordinate.
Heh, I hear you. Like I said previously I'm a fairly cynical guy. I'm aware and honest about my own shortcomings though. I agree it's not in Paradox's best interests to do something stupid either but (video games) history is littered with questionable decisions being made to the detriment of the company in question.
