More like flying tank parts.Reading about the tanks with torpedoes attached, I suddenly had a mental flash: what would happen if the torpedoes failed to detach from the tank? Flying tank, perhaps ?
we cant make equipment that is both a ship and a tank at the same time now sadly. but the above sounds so epic we'll see what we can do for future DLCs or whatever. you can mod submarine-carrier-battleships atm, but not landgoing ones(actually land going carrier might work. havent tested it)
I WO1 the Belgian Army used a "Beer" gun to demoralize the German troops in front of their lines. "Beer" being a Flemish word for 'shit' used by farmers to fertilize their fields.
So as this was used for psychological warfare it could be a nice idea to have psychological warefare units available to undermine moral of enemy troops.

"So, Guderian, where is my new wonder panzer?"
"over here, mein führer...and over here...and over here."

We all have wish lists for non-standard units, i list 3 below, what are yours?
1. Ship type; Mulbury Harbour....short range, and becomes a non moveable port when first trip is finished.
2. Infrastructure; Sub pen.......docked submarines in them are immune to conventional air attack.
3. Japanese bicycle infantry.... Infantry with speed boost when marching towards Singapore.
Italians also sunk a CL and quite some Transport etc. etc..During World War II, E-boats sank 101 merchant ships totalling 214,728 tons.[6] In addition, they sank 12 destroyers, 11 minesweepers, eight landing ships, six MTBs, a torpedo boat, a minelayer, one submarine and a number of small merchant craft. They also damaged two cruisers, five destroyers, three landing ships, a repair ship, a naval tug and numerous merchant vessels. Sea mines laid by the E-boats were responsible for the loss of 37 merchant ships totalling 148,535 tons, a destroyer, two minesweepers and four landing ships.[6]
Solomon Islands campaign
The effectiveness of PT boats in the Solomon Islands campaign, where there were numerous engagements between PTs and capital ships as well as against Japanese shipborne resupply efforts dubbed "The Tokyo Express" operating in New Georgia Sound (called "the Slot" by the Americans involved in the fighting) was substantially undermined by defective Mark 8 torpedoes. The Japanese were initially cautious when operating their capital ships in areas known to have PT boats, since they knew how dangerous their own Type 93 torpedoes were, and assumed the Americans had equally lethal weapons. The PT boats at Guadalcanal were given credit for several sinkings and successes against the vaunted Tokyo Express. In several engagements, the mere presence of PTs was sufficient to disrupt heavily escorted Japanese resupply activities at Guadalcanal.[17] Afterwards, the PT mission in the Solomon Islands was deemed a success.[17]

3 often overlooked things..
First Schnellboote/E-Boats/MTB/PT-Boats/MAS..
Several hundreds build by each of some of the major nations in ww2.
Choice for smaller nations maybe too. Coastal defense, convoy attack(GER versions had range up to 700 with fast diesel engines.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-boat..
Italians also sunk a CL and quite some Transport etc. etc..
Then coastal subs wich where less in numbers but well, played their role too.
These could maybe also be used in espionage/commando missions? Or buff the results of such missions, like the mini-subs?
Anyway, one role of subs was also done by MTB's, and thats laying mines!
And mines played quite a role in ww2 too. Be it just defensive like to avoid areas around ports or suprise attacks from new layed mine fields for convoys or enemy ports.
These could be implemented as new mission that would add a percentage modifier of attrition to a sea province or even a critical hit modifier.
Counterable with good research and invest in new coastal sea defence wich could incorporate buildings and Minesweeper ships(Not as buildable unit but offmap simulation through modifiers or similar)?
tl;dr
In importance: Mines, MTB, coastal subs.
Mines will be way too hard to implement correctly. Sea zones are just too big and of course if you have mines you need mine sweepers etc. Mines to me are like a bullet, torpedo or artillery shell. They aren't "units".
